Non penso di esagerare dicendo che questo è veramente il colpo  finalew a gli Stati Unitigli Stati Uniti: l’Arabia Saudita è appena entrata in un’alleanza simile alla NATO con il Pakistan, per cui “qualsiasi attacco a uno dei due paesi è un attacco a entrambi”.

Il simbolismo è straordinario: l’Arabia Saudita era in molti modi IL caso emblematico degli stati clienti degli Stati Uniti. Se loro non si fidano più delle garanzie di sicurezza americane, perché dovrebbero farlo gli altri? E naturalmente il fatto che questo sia realmente accaduto e non sia stato impedito dagli Stati Uniti è di per sé immensamente rivelatore. Questo ha così tante altre conseguenze che è quasi troppo da comprendere: –

Primo, significa che l’Arabia Saudita beneficia ora della deterrenza nucleare del Pakistan (e l’accordo include il nucleare: un alto funzionario saudita ha detto ad Al Jazeera che “si tratta di un accordo difensivo completo che comprende tutti i mezzi militari”, https://aljazeera.com/news/2025/9/17/saudi-arabia-signs-mutual-defence-pact-with-nuclear-armed-pakistan). Che significa che ora abbiamo ufficialmente due blocchi supportati dal nucleare in Medio Oriente: Stati Uniti-Israele contro Pakistan-Arabia Saudita. Inoltre, il Pakistan rifiuta esplicitamente una dottrina di “no first use” – il che significa che l’Arabia Saudita ha ora un protettore disposto a usare armi nucleari in modo preventivo. – Dato che l’81% delle importazioni di armi del Pakistan proviene dalla Cina (https://scmp.com/news/china/military/article/3302515/china-supplied-81-pakistans-arms-imports-past-5-years-sipri-says), significa anche che l’Arabia Saudita si è appena allineata indirettamente con il complesso militare-industriale cinese – Questo estende di fatto il Corridoio Economico Cina-Pakistan (CPEC) fino al Golfo Persico, protetto da armi nucleari pakistane e tecnologia militare cinese – creando un corridoio energetico sicuro dal Medio Oriente alla Cina che aggira completamente lo Stretto di Malacca –

Il tempismo è probabilmente tutt’altro che casuale, solo pochi giorni dopo l’attacco di Israele al Qatar, la prova ultima dell’inutilità della protezione statunitense. – Altri stati del Golfo, e probabilmente a tempo debito altri paesi “protetti” dagli Stati Uniti, esploreranno modelli comparabili nei prossimi mesi. Si tratterà di una sfida esplicita per tutti i partiti di centrodestra, che partecipano attivamente al Family Day o lo sostengono, che guarda ai Repubblicani USA, vincitori nel 2025 con un progetto assolutamente pro Life.

In sei aste su dodici vinse addirittura la banca che gestiva l’asta stessa

Il Washington Post lo scrisse praticamente senza bisogno di interpreti:

quel prestito rappresentava un evidente sostegno occidentale a Eltsin alla vigilia delle elezioni

Washington voleva la prosecuzione delle «riforme»

E quali erano quelle riforme?

Quando la Russia vendeva i propri gioielli industriali a una frazione del loro valore, era LIBERO MERCATO

Quando gli oligarchi finanziavano la rielezione di Eltsin, era DEMOCRAZIA

Quando televisioni e giornali controllati dai grandi gruppi economici si schieravano dalla stessa parte, era PLURALISMO

Quando Washington spingeva per sostenere economicamente Eltsin alla vigilia del voto, era naturalmente soltanto AIUTO ALLA RUSSIA

Meraviglioso questo vocabolario occidentale

Poi arrivò Putin

E Putin non «cacciò gli ebrei»

Questa sarebbe una semplificazione

Fece qualcosa di molto più rilevante politicamente:

RIDUSSE IL POTERE AUTONOMO DEGLI OLIGARCHI SULLO STATO

Il messaggio fu sostanzialmente:

potete continuare a essere ricchi

Ma NON POTETE PIÙ DECIDERE CHI COMANDA AL CREMLINO

Gusinsky finì all’estero

Khodorkovsky venne arrestato

Yukos fu smantellata

Altri oligarchi rimasero miliardari, purché riconoscessero che sopra il loro patrimonio esisteva nuovamente LO STATO RUSSO

E questo è il vero punto

Putin non sostituì il capitalismo con il socialismo

Non abolì gli oligarchi

Non combatté una religione

CAMBIÒ IL RAPPORTO DI FORZA FRA DENARO E POTERE POLITICO

Poi Mosca cominciò nuovamente a pretendere di decidere da sola che cosa fare del proprio Stato, delle proprie industrie e della propria politica estera

E improvvisamente iniziarono le lezioni quotidiane sulla democrazia

DEV’ESSERE STATA UNA PURA COINCIDENZA

Quindi diciamolo senza falsificare nulla:

molti dei potentissimi oligarchi che dominarono la Russia di Eltsin erano di origine ebraica

È vero

Putin spezzò il potere politico di un’oligarchia che aveva approfittato della gigantesca svendita degli anni Novanta

Ed è una storia molto più grave della favoletta etnica

Perché quella svendita non avvenne contro la volontà dell’occidente

Avvenne mentre Washington sosteneva politicamente Eltsin e applaudiva quelle “riforme”

E forse è proprio questo il particolare che oggi sarebbe meglio dimenticare

Spain’s construction industry is undergoing rapid demographic changes. Foreign-born workers in unskilled construction roles now make up 52.6 percent of all workers, according to data from Randstad from the first quarter

The data shows that foreign workers now exceed Spanish nationals for these unskilled roles by nearly 11,000 workers. The contrast is stark compared to pre-pandemic figures, when domestic laborers outnumbered foreign counterparts by more than 33,500.

Overall, the construction industry has lost 22,711 Spanish workers since 2019 while gaining 238,451 foreign employees, a figure that includes individuals with dual nationality. As a result, almost 36 percent of all construction workers, both skilled and unskilled, are now of foreign origin in the country.

The shift is equally evident among bricklayers. In 2019, Spanish bricklayers outnumbered foreigners by 111,000. Seven years later, that gap has narrowed to just 18,000 workers. Foreign labor has gained more than 16 percentage points in this category and currently accounts for roughly 48 percent of bricklayers working in Spain. While Spaniards remain the majority in most skilled roles for now, the statistical gap continues to shrink rapidly. Experts also predict that foreigners will increasingly dominate skilled and managerial positions in the future.

This transformation extends into specialized technical trades. The count of Spanish plumbers fell from 70,932 in 2019 to 57,781 today, while foreign representation doubled after adding over 10,000 workers. One in four plumbers in Spain is now foreign-born. Electricians show a similar dynamic, with about 32,000 foreign workers joining the profession since 2019, driving foreign representation up from under 11 percent pre-pandemic to nearly three out of ten today.

Industry analysts expect these patterns to hold due to impending retirements and low replacement rates among younger Spaniards.

Spain, like many other nations, is attempting to automate the construction industry as much as possible. However, instead of relying on advanced robots, Spain has so far shifted toward a modular construction approach in which concrete panels, bathrooms, and complete structural modules are built indoors in automated, factory-controlled settings that use machinery and assembly lines similar to those in the automotive sector. Cranes then assemble these modular components on site, requiring significantly fewer workers and dramatically cutting project delivery times.

Countries such as South Korea, by contrast, are racing ahead in automated construction, precisely because nations like Spain continue to rely on mass immigration, which is often cheaper in the short term but more costly over the long run.

South Korea does not only use automated construction in planning, but also in deploying commercialized robotics, automated modular manufacturing, and government-mandated smart construction.

Automated facilities, such as Space Factory, use advanced robotic arms to cut materials, assemble structural panels, seal joints, and fit window frames without direct manual intervention.

Unlike standard build sites in Spain, South Korean contractors actively deploy field robotics directly to job sites.

Automated rebar-tying robots and robotic concrete sprayers and finishers are routinely used by major developers, such as Samsung C&T and Hyundai E&C, to reduce heavy physical labor on high-rise residential projects. In addition, unmanned excavators and bulldozers guided by real-time GPS and drone mapping handle heavy site preparation.

Robots are even acting as supervisors to some extent, with autonomous quadruped robots, such as Boston Dynamics’ “Spot,” owned by South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group, continuously patrolling construction sites, performing 3D laser scans to verify that progress matches digital blueprints.

As Remix News has previously reported, automation, robotics, and AI are all leading elements of Asian economies, which have chosen efficiency and technology over mass immigration and cheap foreign labor.

A 24-year-old man from Gambia remains in custody after police arrested him in connection with a rapid series of alleged sexual attacks on three women in Heidelberg. During the incidents, he allegedly attempted to rape the three women in short succession by dragging them into a cornfield.

Authorities say the incidents unfolded within roughly half an hour on Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, 2026, in an open field area beside the Pfaffengrund cemetery.

According to statements from the Mannheim police headquarters and the Heidelberg public prosecutor’s office, the suspect was walking in the fields around 10:00 a.m. when he approached a woman who was out with her dog. He is accused of grabbing her by the chest and attempting to pull her into a nearby cornfield. The woman shouted and fought back, managing to break free and run away, according to German newspaper Wochenblatt.

Minutes later, between approximately 10:25 and 10:30 a.m., the same man allegedly targeted two other female walkers separately. In each case he seized their hands or wrists and tried to force them toward the cornfield. Both women resisted vigorously, and he eventually released them without succeeding.

Witnesses who saw the confrontations contacted emergency services. Officers launched an immediate search and detained the suspect a short time later. During the arrest, he is further accused of grabbing a female police officer’s crotch.

The following day, the 24-year-old appeared before an investigating judge at the Heidelberg District Court. At the prosecutor’s request the judge issued an arrest warrant on suspicion of multiple counts of attempted sexual assault, sexual harassment, and additional related offenses. He was then transferred to a correctional facility.

Investigators have indicated they are examining possible other incidents linked to the same individual. The joint probe by the Heidelberg public prosecutor’s office and the criminal police continues.

The case has parallels with many other cases covered by Remix News over the years, including a case where a woman successfully fought off a migrant with a horse whip when he tried to drag her off her horse and rape her.

A intervenção integra o Plano Anual de Manutenção do Parque de Desporto Municipal e surge na sequência do desgaste do algeroz metálico existente na cobertura da Nave Principal do Pavilhão Desportivo Municipal, cuja estanquidade se encontrava comprometida, permitindo a entrada de água no interior do pavilhão, sobretudo por escorrência ao longo das paredes.

Os trabalhos contemplam o corte da telha existente, com recurso a equipamento adequado, de forma a criar as condições necessárias à intervenção, seguindo-se a limpeza e o isolamento do algeroz atual e a instalação de um novo algeroz no seu interior, com ligação aos tubos de queda já existentes.

Está igualmente prevista a colocação de um remate em chapa sobre o murete, cobrindo a maior parte da secção do novo algeroz, com o objetivo de reforçar a proteção da estrutura e assegurar uma adequada condução das águas provenientes da cobertura.

Com um prazo de execução de 60 dias, a empreitada representa um investimento municipal de 11.600,00 euros.

Com esta intervenção, o Município prossegue o investimento na manutenção e valorização das infraestruturas municipais, promovendo melhores condições de conservação, segurança e utilização dos equipamentos ao serviço da comunidade.

With military and diplomatic means to end the war with Iran stalling, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is set to explain a new round of economic pressure measures on Iran Monday.

A senior political figure has questioned whether the continued detention of the Mayor of Albania’s capital city is “strictly necessary”.

Erion Veliaj (pictured) has remained nominally in office as mayor of Tirana despite being held in what is known as pre-trial detention (PTD) since February 2025.

He is accused of corruption and money laundering but strongly denies any wrong doing.

The latest in a protracted series of court cases takes place on 15 September when his case will be considered by Albania’s Supreme Court.

This comes after the country’s Constitutional Court recently called for a review as required by Albania's constitution.

The hearing has assumed particular importance as it is a review of both his pretrial detention and its proportionality.

The mayor’s local lawyer Plarent Ndreca said that following the Constitutional Court's judgment "the legal basis for maintaining Mr Veliaj in detention has fundamentally changed.”

In an exclusive interview with this website,  a senior figure with the European Democratic Party, a pan-European political party, said the case “raises serious questions of necessity and proportionality.”

Sandro Gozi, the party’s Secretary-General and also a senior French MEP with Renew Europe, a mainstream group in the European Parliament, questioned if his continued detention may be “excessive.”

This website asked Gozi what specific concerns he had about the case.

He said: “Let me be very clear: fighting corruption is essential, particularly in a country seeking EU membership, and asking for respect for the rule of law can never mean asking for impunity.

“Serious allegations must be investigated and prosecuted independently, whoever is involved. But the rule of law also means proportionality, due process and the presumption of innocence.”

He pointed out that Veliaj has been in pre-trial detention since February 2025, adding, “and after such a long period it is legitimate to ask whether continued detention remains strictly necessary or whether alternative measures could be used.”

Some have argued the case “shines a light” on current flaws in the judiciary and rule of law in Albania.

On this,Gozi, secretary general since 2021, said , “One case cannot define an entire judicial system, and Albania has made important progress in fighting corruption.”

He added, “However, there is a broader issue that deserves attention: Council of Europe SPACE data show that 58% of Albania's prison population was being held without a final sentence, the highest proportion in Europe, compared with a European average of 29%.

“The same analysis notes that very high levels of pre-trial detention can be associated with slow proceedings or an excessive reliance on detention as a precautionary measure.”

The MEP said: “These are concerns Albania should address as part of its European path.”

Albania is a leading front runner to join the EU, possibly as soon as 2030, and has been widely lauded by the 27-strong bloc and others, including MEPs, for closing most of the negotiating chapters required for EU membership although some caution that ongoing issues with its judiciary may slow progress towards accession.

Gozi, a member of Mouvement Democrate in France, said: “I strongly support Albania's European perspective, but accession must remain merit-based.

“No judicial system is perfect, including those of existing member states, but respect for the rule of law, judicial independence and fundamental rights must be firmly guaranteed before accession,” added the Euro deputy, who chairs the Delegation to the EU-UK Parliamentary Partnership Assembly.

Asked about the use of PTD in the case of the mayor, not least as an elected official, and also the time taken for his case to come to trial,he said, “Eighteen months of pre-trial detention is an extremely long period and raises serious questions of necessity and proportionality.

“This concern remains entirely unchanged regardless of Mr Veliaj’s political position.”

The MEP, who is from Italy and was former Undersecretary of State for European Affairs in the Matteo Renzi and Paolo Gentiloni governments, declined to be drawn the length of time the case was taking to come to court, saying: “I will not speculate on allegations concerning an independent court.”

The European Democratic Party also recently posted a statement on the case which pointed out the mayor had been as been in PTD since 10 February 2025 —  a year and a half.

The statement adds that formal charges were notified only in July 2025, after 163 days in detention and that, recently, Albania’s Constitutional Court overturned a Supreme Court decision and ordered a new review of his detention “questioning its proportionality in light of his mandate as Tirana’s democratically elected mayor”.

It goes on: “We join those calling on the Albanian authorities to uphold the rule of law, the presumption of innocence and the principle of proportionality. This case comes against a deeply concerning backdrop for Albanian democracy.

“We will keep the spotlight on it, because Albania deserves a European future — one that is fully democratic, transparent and firmly committed to fighting corruption, while guaranteeing that justice is always exercised with fairness, independence and respect for fundamental rights.”

European Democratic Party members include Renew Europe MEPs and, in 2025, RE “strongly condemned” what it called the “politically motivated” arrest on corruption charges against another elected official: Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev.

Speaking earlier this year, RE Lithuanian MEP Petras Auštrevičius, the European Parliament's rapporteur on enlargement, highly praised Albania's reform effort but said that concerns regarding pre-trial detention practices in Albania "demonstrate precisely why judicial reforms must deliver real results.”

Ben Brandon, of Mishcon de Reya LLP, is one of Veliaj's international counsel based in London. He is just returned from Tirana where he was able to visit the mayor in prison for the first time since the official's arrest.

Speaking to this site,  Brandon said: "We have long argued that Erion Veliaj's pre-trial detention is unnecessary and disproportionate. Until the Constitutional Court examined his case, no court in Albania properly considered the relevance of his status and responsibilities as the democratically elected Mayor of Albania's capital city, or the available alternatives to detention. The Supreme Court has been directed to re-examine the proportionality of his continued detention by the Constitutional Court on 15 September.

“We hope that the Supreme Court will follow the clear reasoning of the superior court, correct the obvious errors that have been made in Mayor Veliaj's case over the past 18 months, and release him immediately."

Currently, there are local media reports that a separate investigation has now been opened against the Mayor, focused on expenses, though this has not been confirmed.

With the clock ticking on Albania seeking to close its last remaining EU negotiating chapters, some argue it is not a coincidence there has been a perceived crackdown in the justice sphere, with a spate of cases brought against high profile public figures and elected officials, including Veliaj.

Veliaj’s case is not the only one to have captured the Albanian media’s attention in recent times, with a former environment minister among those charged with corruption.

However, for Veliaj the most immediate concern is his detention at a centre close to the Albanian coast.

His local lawyer points out it is not the first time concern has been raised about the use of pre-trial detention in Albania with most recent data showing that  about 58 per cent of its prison population, approximately, 2,653 people, are held in remand, a rate up to five times higher than the EU average.

PTD is said to frequently be used for crimes like corruption but Veliaj and his lawyers argue that to detain someone for so long – the average stay is 253 days  – is “highly unusual” unless it is a case relating to drug trafficking, organised crime and/or terrorism.

The spotlight has, to some extent, also fallen on the organisation in Albania charged with the task of rooting out corruption and tackling serious crime.

SPAK, as it’s commonly referred to, has been widely praised for its concerted efforts in this regard and has been hailed by many for its work, including by the European Parliament’s rapporteur on Albania, Socialist MEP Andreas Schieder, as being “essential”, not least in helping to fulfil the country’s pre-accession reforms.

The MEP has, in the past, said SPAK was playing a “crucial role” in the fight against corruption and “shows the Albanian government is taking this task very seriously”.

Asked to comment on the Veliaj case a SPAK spokesman said: “We can confirm that the Special Prosecution Office has concluded its investigation and has formally submitted the case for trial before the Special Court Against Corruption and Organised Crime (GJKKO), where proceedings are now under way.Any submissions relating to these matters should be made directly to the Court (GJKKO), in accordance with the procedures and timeframes set out under the Criminal Procedure Code.”

The comment was made in July and, at the time of going to press, no-one from SPAK had replied to a most recent query from this site.
