French prime minister says he could still impose a state of emergency, after interior minister says police 'lost control' of massive protests over the surging cost of living

Curfews are in effect in parts of Paris and other French cities as authorities try to restore order following widespread rioting this weekend. Government officials have acknowledged "failures" in their handling of the unrest and say an investigation is underway to track down those responsible.
