Four capital police officials arrested for ‘dacoity’ at Chinese nationals’ house

ISLAMABAD: Four capital police officials allegedly involved in a dacoity at the house of Chinese nationals in the capital’s F-7/1 sector have been arrested, a police officer confirmed.

The officer said the four officials, who were in uniform, committed the dacoity along with an accomplice. The police arrested all four officials and initiated legal proceedings against them.

It was the fourth house dacoity in which Chinese nationals had been targeted since Aug 29. In three of the incidents, the criminals disguised themselves as officials. During investigations into two of the cases, serving capital police personnel were identified as suspects.

In the latest incident, a gang of dacoits in police uniforms raided a house in F-7/1 and looted Rs2 million in cash and a mobile phone worth Rs15,000. The police registered a case under Section 395 (dacoity) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the FIR, two Chinese nationals were residing in the house. At around 2:20am, a man in police uniform entered the premises and went to the servants’ quarters.

He woke up a security guard assigned to the day shift and a driver who were sleeping there and took them outside. He then led them to a black Toyota Corolla fitted with a revolving police light.

Four men, three of them in police uniforms, were sitting in the car and were armed with weapons. They subsequently took the guard and driver back inside the premises along with the vehicle.

The gunmen then climbed into the house through a window and held the two Chinese nationals at gunpoint. They detained the foreigners and two servants in the drawing room and looted Rs2 million in cash.

The security guard suspected that the other guard had colluded with the dacoits and opened the gate for the man who had woken him and the driver after reaching the quarters.

After registering the case, the police launched an investigation and identified the suspects with the help of CCTV footage. The officials were subsequently arrested.

Last month, three serving capital police personnel were found involved in operating a dacoit gang in Islamabad along with other accomplices.

Their involvement was exposed during the investigation into a dacoity on Sept 13, when gunmen dressed in police uniforms raided the house of two Chinese nationals in G-10/4 and looted Rs8 million.
