Sylvester Stallone: ‘I don’t know what the new masculinities are. It’s in a man’s nature to conquer’

5 October 2026 at 19:16

It is Sylvester Stallone’s fourth interview of the day. Is he tired of talking yet? “No, because this is the first one about my memoirs,” he replies from a hotel room in New York, his hometown, overlooking Central Park, where he is meeting with EL PAÍS.

15 Clay Tablets From Ur Reveal Unknown Places, an Ancient Princess Whose Farm Ran on Its Own Rules, and a Village Inhabited by Prisoners of War

Each of these tablets fits in the palm of a hand. The smallest measures a little over 3 centimetres (1.3 inches) across and the largest 11.5 (4.5 inches), and nearly all of them deal with the least glamorous things a museum can hold: sacks of barley, daily wages, the size of ditches. Read together, though, […]

An Ancient Greek Paradox May Help Explain Why the Universe Could Be Stuck in the Wrong State

Physicists have been asking an awkward question for decades. If the universe is built from invisible fields, why has each one ended up in the state we find it in, and not in some other? A team at the University of Portsmouth, working with colleagues at Syracuse University and the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, […]

Egypt’s Earliest Kings Were Buried Among Hundreds of Servants — Forensics Finally Finds Signs of Violent Deaths

Around 5,000 years ago, when writing was in its infancy and Egypt had just been united under a single king, the first pharaohs picked a patch of desert at Abydos, in Upper Egypt (the southern part of the country, upriver on the Nile), as their final resting place. The spot is called Umm el-Qaab, Arabic […]

An image of Rome’s most solemn sacrifice, an altar dedicated by an Augustan Sevir, and a buried lightning bolt, found in the city of Juvenal

5 October 2026 at 08:52
An ox, a ram and a pig, surrounded by garlands, festoons and carved ox skulls, share a single block of stone. At some point in antiquity it ended up as paving at one of the main crossroads of Aquinum, a Roman city in central Italy. It is one of two finds that archaeologists from the […]
