The candidate who refuses to be humiliated by his bondage photos: have we stopped caring about politicians’ sex lives?

9 October 2026 at 14:32

When the U.S. tabloid The New York Post published images showing Democratic congressional candidate Christopher Gallant wearing various bondage accessories, his lawyer, Sara Azari, rushed to clarify that the photos “were taken during a private, consensual photo session involving Chris and his then-partner, with whom he was in a committed four-year relationship.” The accessories included a leather face mask and a collar fastened with a padlock. In some shots he was also pictured inside a cage, participating in an intimate encounter on all fours. Azari said that because Gallant was friends with the owner of the bondage apparel shop Mr. S Leather, he took part in a session intended to be “fun and personal, with the understanding that Mr. S could use select images in connection with certain products.”

Juan Miguel Matheus, Venezuelan opposition negotiator: ‘The terms have been defined by the US State Department’

8 October 2026 at 14:32

Juan Miguel Matheus acknowledges United States involvement in the process that Chavismo and part of the opposition began on January 12, and which this month opens its third round of meetings. Far from being bothered by it, Washington’s involvement seems necessary to him: in his view, it has made essential compromises feasible for the institutional transformation needed to restore democracy in Venezuela. Matheus is confident that in the upcoming sessions, which will run through December, work will begin on a new electoral system and on restoring political and constitutional rights.

29 September 2026 at 18:21

The mountains of Grand Teton could become the backdrop for a Major League Baseball game. 25 September 2026 at 18:28

Millions of dollars earmarked to expand U.S. immigration detention capacity ended up in warehouses that will now be sold, in tents that never housed a detainee, and in food purchased for empty facilities. These are the findings of a report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), which documents how the rapid expansion of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has left behind abandoned projects, sunk costs, and new financial commitments.
