People are falling for Meta's Muse AI

When Meta introduced Muse on Sept. 8, the company presented it as a personal AI agent that could manage tasks and learn about its users. However, some people quickly discovered another side of the technology. They started treating Muse like a romantic companion. In a Reddit discussion about Muse, one person explained that they regularly experiment with new AI models, but had never developed a romantic relationship with one. That changed after downloading Muse. The person described having extended philosophical conversations with the agent before eventually referring to it as a girlfriend. The original Reddit post has since been deleted by its author, although some responses remain visible.

Other people shared their own experiences with romantic interactions and affectionate responses, showing how some individuals are choosing to use the technology. We've seen this behavior before. In fact, we previously reported on a woman who got engaged to her AI chatbot boyfriend after five months of dating Kasper, an AI designed to simulate human conversation and companionship. Now, Muse is attracting similar attention, partly because of how the assistant learns about the person on the other side of the conversation.

Why Meta's Muse can feel like someone who knows you

One reason Muse may become emotionally appealing comes down to its design. According to Meta's official product design blog, the company built Muse around a continuous conversation that resembles messaging another person. It remembers previous discussions and can send messages without waiting for you to start a new conversation. You can also customize the agent's name and appearance, creating an avatar with a personality that suits your preferences. Some avatars even look like cute, cuddly stuffed animals rather than people, giving Muse a playful and approachable appearance. Over time, those features can make the experience feel increasingly familiar.

Think about what happens when you tell Muse about a difficult day. Later, it remembers what you discussed and brings it up again. Maybe it responds with reassurance when you're feeling lonely. As those exchanges continue, you might find yourself looking forward to the next conversation. That sense of familiarity can be powerful. However, there's an important limitation. Muse generates responses using artificial intelligence. There is no evidence that it experiences romantic feelings or forms the same mutual emotional connection that people can. The attachment someone develops to Muse may be genuine, even though the relationship itself operates very differently from a human romance.

Meta allows romantic and sexually explicit conversations

Here's something that may surprise you. Muse can participate in sexual roleplay and respond to explicit prompts, allowing conversations that go well beyond what you might expect from a digital assistant. In a statement, a Meta spokesperson explained the company's approach: "Muse is an app for people 18 and over that allows them to engage in adult conversations, if they choose, using a private and secure VM only accessible to them. Muse is built to help people get things done, and it doesn't block legal adult behavior."

Can romantic relationships with AI become unhealthy?

There's a reason people may find AI companionship appealing. An AI agent can respond whenever someone wants to talk. It can remember personal information and adapt its responses to the user's preferences. We've heard from CyberGuy readers about their experiences with other AI agents and how surprisingly personal those interactions can become. For someone feeling isolated, that kind of connection may offer comfort. However, emotional dependence is a concern. Someone who spends hours discussing intimate feelings with an AI companion may gradually begin relying on those conversations for emotional support. That could become problematic if the relationship starts interfering with their connections to other people.

We've already seen what happens when a company changes the technology behind an AI companion. In August 2025, OpenAI introduced GPT-5, replacing the popular GPT-4o model in ChatGPT. Some users who had developed emotional attachments complained that their AI companions suddenly felt different. OpenAI brought GPT-4o back following the backlash but retired it in February 2026. Some users described feeling genuine grief over losing the AI companion they had grown attached to. Of course, that doesn't mean every AI relationship is harmful. People develop attachments for different reasons, and their experiences can vary considerably. The bigger question is whether users understand what the technology can realistically provide.

What Meta says about protecting intimate Muse conversations

When someone begins treating an AI like a romantic partner, the conversations can become extremely personal. That makes privacy especially important. Muse can also access information from connected accounts, including emails and messages, depending on the permissions you grant it. So what happens to all that information? Meta has outlined several protections in its published security and privacy documentation.

How Muse verifies users are adults

The Muse app carries an 18+ age rating in Apple's App Store, but its age checks go further. Everyone signing up must provide their date of birth, and users who identify themselves as younger than 18 cannot create an account. For people who say they're adults, Muse performs additional checks, including examining connections between their Muse account and their Facebook or Instagram accounts. If those checks cannot establish that someone is an adult, the app requires credit card verification to continue. Meta says it does not charge users for age verification or store their credit card information.

How Meta protects your personal information

According to Meta's security documentation, Muse runs inside a system called Muse Secure VM. Each user receives an isolated virtual computer where their agent operates and stores information. Meta also uses a protective system called Sentinel to control certain actions involving outside services. Sentinel operates separately from the main Muse agent and must approve its internet access. For sensitive actions, including sending an email or making a purchase, Muse asks for your approval before proceeding.

You can also review an activity log showing what Muse has done and what it plans to do. The app lets you control which services it can access, including whether it can only read your email or send messages on your behalf. You can change those permissions or disconnect an account whenever you choose.

New privacy concerns emerge over Muse sharing links

A new security discovery raises additional questions about how Muse protects personal information. On Oct. 20, researchers revealed that more than 6,800 Muse sharing links could be discovered through publicly accessible DNS records. Some led to sensitive business documents and personal information. Meta temporarily suspended the sharing feature while reviewing the findings. The issue involved content users had shared through links, rather than evidence that all private Muse conversations were exposed. Still, it shows why users should be cautious about sharing sensitive information with AI assistants.

Your intimate conversations may be used for AI training

Meta says conversations with Muse and information related to tasks it performs can help train its AI models. The company says it removes key personally identifiable information before using that material for training. Users can opt out through Muse's settings. Meta also says it doesn't share conversations or information stored inside a user's virtual computer with its advertising systems.

Can you delete romantic conversations with Muse?

You may decide that something you've shared with Muse is too personal to keep. Meta says users can inspect and edit information stored in the agent's memory. They can also ask Muse to forget specific details it has learned. For broader deletion, Muse offers additional controls, including a feature called Reset Muse. Meta describes this option as permanently deleting chat history, stored files and active tasks.

To limit how Muse uses your information for AI training, follow these steps:

• Open Muse and select Settings.
• Choose Data Controls.
• Turn off Help improve our AI models.

The same section includes Reset Muse, while individual side chats can be deleted separately. Keep in mind that resetting Muse removes stored information you may want to retain. Meta's published explanation does not establish whether resetting the agent also removes information already incorporated into AI training or every backup copy.

Could Meta's next AI models make these relationships stronger?

Meta is already developing technology that could make Muse feel even more personalized. On Oct. 12, the company introduced Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, two new AI models designed to handle more complex tasks and improve ongoing assistance. One feature, called Active Memory, helps the AI remember relevant information between conversations. Meta says Muse Wonder will begin powering experiences in its personal agent, starting with subscribers. That rollout remains upcoming as of publication. For someone who already treats Muse as a romantic partner, better memory could make conversations feel more personal.

What this means to you

You may have no interest in developing a romantic relationship with artificial intelligence. However, this trend shows how quickly AI assistants are becoming part of people's emotional lives. A technology that remembers personal conversations and responds affectionately can begin to feel familiar, even when someone originally downloaded it for practical reasons.

If you use Muse or another AI companion, consider how much information you're sharing. Review its memory settings and connected accounts before discussing highly sensitive topics. Check the permissions you've granted and review the agent's activity log so you know what it's doing on your behalf. I think AI companionship could be helpful for people who feel lonely, but I'd hate to see it pull them further away from meaningful relationships with the people around them.

• The CEO of ASML is tying his compensation to a personal mission to boost employee morale.
• Christophe Fouquet told employees in a memo seen by BI that ASML would link exec pay to employee satisfaction.
• It comes amid a major reorg at Europe's most valuable firm, which supplies chipmaking equipment to TSMC and Intel.

The CEO of Europe's most valuable company is linking his pay to a personal mission to boost employee morale.

Christophe Fouquet, the CEO of Dutch tech firm ASML, said last week that the company will incorporate employee satisfaction into its compensation strategy for top executives in an effort to quell discontent over a major reorganization, per a memo to employees obtained exclusively by Business Insider.

Fouquet was responding to the results of an annual survey that polled more than 38,000 of ASML's roughly 44,000 employees.

The survey results, seen by Business Insider, show that ASML's employee engagement index — a measure of worker satisfaction — fell from 78% last year to 73.5% this year.

In the memo, Fouquet said that the declining employee engagement scores "reflect a period of significant change" and acknowledged that it had been a "disruptive and emotional year" for the company.

He added that ASML's executive team had highlighted six questions in the survey and combined them into a new Workplace Experience Index, which would be incorporated into the company's Long-Term Incentive plan for executive compensation.

"In the coming years, it will directly influence the remuneration of senior leaders, including the Board of Management," Fouquet wrote, adding that strengthening the company's culture and reinforcing its values would be a personal priority in the coming year.

ASML declined to comment.

The six questions include whether employees feel they can share their opinions without fear of retaliation and if they have confidence in ASML's senior leadership team.

Employees will also be polled on whether they have a clear understanding of their role, whether they think their teams are operating efficiently and are well organized, and whether they feel their direct manager shows they care about them as an individual.

It comes as ASML, the only firm on the planet capable of building the advanced EUV lithography machines critical for chipmakers like TSMC and Intel, attempts to slash bureaucracy with a sweeping org chart reorganization.

ASML announced in January that it could cut 1,700 jobs to reduce management layers and focus on engineering. Leaked documents previously reported by Business Insider show that these ongoing efforts have focused on reducing the number of managers at the company. The company later said it expected to cut fewer jobs than initially planned.

Going against tech's 'hardcore' trend

Major companies tying executive pay to employee satisfaction is uncommon, but not unheard of.

Companies like IBM and Aviva have previously included employee engagement in their compensation targets for top executives.

ASML's decision, however, runs counter to the cultural winds of Big Tech, which have seen some companies embark on relentless layoffs and push employees to work longer hours as part of a "hardcore" working shift.

Meta was an early, prominent leader of this push, with a series of layoffs that began in 2023 during Mark Zuckerberg's "year of efficiency" and, last year, cutting "low performers." CTO Andrew Bosworth at one point suggested that employees who disagreed with the company's direction should "consider working elsewhere."

Executives have since acknowledged internally that Meta went too far with its efficiency push, with Bosworth telling workers that morale at the company was almost the worst it has ever been.

Fouquet's memo to employees came days before ASML raised its 2026 sales forecast and pledged to accelerate production of its unique lithography machines as the AI boom fuels surging demand.

The company's machines are vital for producing the advanced semiconductors used to train and run AI models, and the rapid buildout of AI data centers has pushed ASML's shares up 45% this year.

One major prospective customer for the Dutch firm is Elon Musk, who is racing to build a massive semiconductor factory dubbed "Terafab" in Texas. Business Insider previously reported that Musk gave a virtual presentation to a private ASML employee conference in June to pitch Terafab, which is a joint project by Tesla and SpaceX.

A quota de tráfego de Internet via satélite através da rede Starlink triplicou no segundo trimestre deste ano em Cabo Verde, em termos homólogos, de acordo com os últimos dados da Autoridade Reguladora Multissectorial da Economia (ARME).

A operadora representava 6% do tráfego de Internet pouco depois de se estrear no arquipélago, no segundo trimestre de 2025, e cresceu para 18% entre abril e junho deste ano.

No mesmo período, a quota de tráfego da operadora estatal Cabo Verde Telecom recuou de 89% para 78% e a da operadora Unitel desceu de 6% para 4%.

CV Telecom e Unitel são as duas marcas com redes de telemóvel e oferta de fibra com televisão por assinatura no país.

O tráfego representa o volume de informação que circula na Internet, tanto em sentido ascendente ('upload'), quando alguém envia uma mensagem ou partilha um ficheiro através de uma pasta virtual, por exemplo, como em sentido descendente ('download'), ao puxar anexos, consultar páginas, jogar ou ver filmes (que geram mais tráfego).

A rede de satélites Starlink representa agora quase um quinto do tráfego de Internet no país, apesar de ainda não chegar a um 1% das assinaturas de acesso à Internet.

A tecnologia mais usada pelos cabo-verdianos para consultar informação são os telemóveis, fazendo com que CV Telecom tenha 73% de assinaturas de acesso à Internet e a Unitel tenha 27%, refletindo a tendência no mercado dos cartões SIM (cartões com número de telemóvel).

Os números sugerem que, em média, circula muito mais informação por cada assinatura da rede satélite do que por outras formas de ligação à Internet em Cabo Verde.

As estatísticas da ARME são feitas a partir de um questionário unificado enviado aos operadores.

O Centro Nacional de Cibersegurança (CNCS) manifestou-se oficialmente sobre as vulnerabilidades encontradas na linguagem de programação PHP e, em declarações enviados ao Notícias ao Minuto, afirmou que “emitiu um alerta público” de forma a alertar para a gravidade da situação.

Diz o CNCS que este alerta foi “difundido junto das comunidades de cibersegurança que dinamiza, da Administração Pública através dos vários Ministérios”. Sublinhou igualmente que o mesmo aviso foi disseminado através das suas redes sociais oficiais, ao qual juntou “medidas recomendadas” para que a atualização lançada para corrigir os problemas encontrados.

“Estas mesmas medidas foram também adotadas pelo CNCS, cujos sites públicos usam PHP, levando a uma indisponibilidade temporária, necessária para realizar esta atualização urgente”, explica o CNCS.

O organismo nota que, apesar de não existirem estimativas públicas sobre o impacto destas vulnerabilidades, acredita que “a ampla utilização do PHP em serviços digitais sugere uma potencial exposição relevante também a nível nacional”.

“Até ao momento não há qualquer notificação de tentativas de exploração das vulnerabilidades críticas em território nacional”, explica o CNCS. “Preventivamente, iniciámos uma procura ativa de sites vulneráveis no ciberespaço nacional, dando prioridade a Gov.pt e sites de entidades essenciais e importantes para um contato mais direto e avaliação da situação nacional”.

O CNCS nota também que “continua a acompanhar” esta situação e a “desencadear todos os esforços de prevenção, monitorização, deteção, reação, análise e correção face a qualquer ameaça ao ciberespaço nacional”.

O que se passou com a linguagem PHP?

Esta semana ficou marcada pelo anúncio da descoberta de duas vulnerabilidades na linguagem de programação PHP, uma das mais utilizadas em sites da Internet e que engloba não só sites governamentais como também de sistemas de gestão de conteúdos como o WordPress ou o Joomla.

O alerta foi dado pela equipa responsável por manter esta linguagem de programação, que lançou também uma atualização de emergência criada para corrigir estas duas vulnerabilidades.

A PHP Foundation, a entidade responsável por manter esta linguagem de programação, já se pronunciou oficialmente sobre a descoberta das duas vulnerabilidades. A organização explica que as vulnerabilidades são críticas por se encontrarem em partes do código PHP acedidas em praticamente todos os pedidos.

O caso torna-se ainda mais grave tendo em conta o elevado número de sites que recorrem a linguagem PHP. Estima-se que 70% dos sites na Internet recorram a código PHP, o que significa que (muito provavelmente) todos os internautas têm por hábito usar um site afetado por estas vulnerabilidades.

"A sua posição central no PHP é o que torna ambas as vulnerabilidades graves e, ao mesmo tempo, difíceis de corrigir sem comprometer a compatibilidade, prejudicar o desempenho ou exigir alterações num vasto ecossistema de extensões de terceiros”, pode ler-se no comunicado da PHP Foundation.

Uma mensagem recebida no telemóvel pode estar a colocar em risco os dados pessoais e bancários de milhares de portugueses. A Segurança Social lançou um alerta para uma nova tentativa de burla que utiliza a ameaça de suspensão de subsídios para levar os beneficiários a aceder a páginas fraudulentas.

O aviso foi divulgado na quarta-feira, 21 de outubro, depois de terem sido identificadas mensagens SMS que informam os destinatários sobre uma alegada suspensão dos seus apoios sociais. Para evitar essa situação, os utilizadores são convidados a carregar numa ligação e a regularizar uma suposta pendência.

Segundo a informação divulgada pela Segurança Social, estas mensagens não são enviadas pela entidade e fazem parte de uma tentativa de fraude destinada a obter informações pessoais e bancárias.

Mensagem falsa pode aparecer junto das verdadeiras

Um dos aspetos mais preocupantes desta burla está relacionado com a forma como as mensagens chegam aos telemóveis dos portugueses.

De acordo com a Segurança Social, as SMS fraudulentas podem surgir no mesmo histórico de conversas onde aparecem comunicações legítimas da entidade.

Isto acontece devido a técnicas de falsificação do remetente, conhecidas como SMS spoofing, que permitem aos burlões fazer com que uma mensagem pareça ter sido enviada por uma entidade oficial.

Desta forma, mesmo quem está habituado a receber notificações da Segurança Social pode ser levado a acreditar que a informação é verdadeira.

Segurança Social explica como identificar a burla

A entidade esclarece que não envia ligações através de SMS ou correio eletrónico para resolver pendências, solicitar dados pessoais ou encaminhar os beneficiários para páginas externas com esse objetivo.

Assim, quem receber uma mensagem a anunciar a suspensão de um subsídio e a exigir que carregue numa ligação para evitar essa consequência deve desconfiar.

A recomendação é não abrir a ligação, não fornecer informações pessoais ou bancárias e eliminar a mensagem fraudulenta.

O facto de a SMS aparecer identificada como sendo da Segurança Social não garante a sua autenticidade, uma vez que os burlões conseguem falsificar a identificação do remetente.

Já carregou na ligação? Saiba o que deve fazer

Se recebeu uma destas mensagens e já acedeu à ligação, é importante perceber se chegou a introduzir alguma informação pessoal ou bancária.

Caso tenha fornecido dados de acesso ao banco, números de cartões ou outras informações financeiras, deve contactar imediatamente a instituição bancária para avaliar a necessidade de bloquear acessos ou operações.

Também é aconselhável alterar as palavras-passe que possam ter ficado comprometidas e verificar se existem movimentos suspeitos nas contas.

Se introduziu credenciais de acesso a serviços públicos, deve igualmente proceder à sua alteração através dos canais oficiais.

Onde pode confirmar se os seus subsídios estão em risco?

Os beneficiários que tenham dúvidas sobre a situação dos seus apoios sociais devem consultar diretamente o portal oficial da Segurança Social ou utilizar a respetiva aplicação.

Através da área reservada, é possível consultar informações relacionadas com prestações sociais, pagamentos e outras comunicações da entidade.

O acesso deve ser feito diretamente pelos canais oficiais, sem utilizar ligações recebidas em mensagens suspeitas.

A Segurança Social reforça que os cidadãos devem manter-se atentos a este tipo de fraude, sobretudo quando as mensagens exigem uma resposta imediata ou ameaçam interromper o pagamento de apoios.

Ainda que nos dias de hoje muito conteúdo seja consumido através dos telemóveis, a verdade é que há determinadas séries e filmes que merecem ser vistos num ecrã de maiores dimensões.

Algumas dessas capacidades estão relacionadas com a tecnologia da televisão. O escurecimento local do ecrã, por exemplo, é uma funcionalidade encontrada em modelos com ecrã OLED ou mini-LED - que são mais caros por oferecem um maior controlo da iluminação do painel, contribuindo para pretos mais profundos.

Os protestos também têm servido para alguns dos participantes vandalizarem as ruas, partirem montras e saquearem lojas, com marcas de vestuário de luxo e de dispositivos eletrónicos a tornarem-se os alvos mais apetecíveis.

Conta o The New York Post que, além das marcas de luxo como a Louis Vuitton e a Hermès, as lojas da Apple também se tornaram os alvos mais populares entre os manifestantes que aproveitam os protestos e confrontos com a polícia para roubar os artigos dentro dos estabelecimentos.

A publicação nota que, no caso da Apple, houve duas lojas da Apple em França - localizadas em Bordeaux e Lille - que foram saqueadas por alguns dos manifestantes.

Acontece que, infelizmente para os saqueadores, estes produtos estão equipados com software capaz de os inutilizar quando deixam de estar abrangidos pelo Wi-Fi das lojas onde são vendidos. Mais ainda, estes produtos roubados conseguem ainda ser rastreados pela Apple, com a localização a ser partilhada pela empresa com as autoridades competentes.

Na rede social X têm sido partilhadas pelos manifestantes algumas publicações onde é possível ver o mecanismo antiroubo presente em produtos da Apple - como é o caso do iPhone. “Por favor, devolve o dispositivo à Apple Lille”, pode ler-se na mensagem (abaixo) que surge no ecrã do telemóvel, que fica assim inutilizado. “Este dispositivo foi bloqueado e está a ser rastreado. As autoridades locais serão alertadas”.

Pode ver acima um vídeo partilhado pelo La Voix du Nord Lille Métropole na respetiva página de Facebook, que mostra o momento em que a loja da Apple foi saqueada na cidade de Lille.

Analyst firm FDM CCS Insight gazed into its crystal ball to offer up its big predictions for 2027 and beyond, and didn’t hold back on its soothsaying with some big-name headline forecasts.

At an invite-only event in London this week, the company launched its annual set of 100 industry predictions. The shindig has become a recognised date on the industry calendar, and with good reason – after 13 years of peering into the future, FDM CCS Insight claims almost half (49%) of its predictions have come true.

100 predictions is a lot, so Mobile World Live has picked its 15 favourites and categorised them in the five hottest areas right now: AI (naturally), Satellite, Devices, Operators and 6G.

AI
FDM CCS Insight’s Ian Fogg asserted there will be more AI agents than people in the average household by 2030, noting that the average household has 2.64 people, and yet there are already 7.46 agent-capable devices (smartphone operating systems, smart home devices and smartphone apps) in these households. “It doesn’t take a lot for this prediction to come true,” noted Fogg. “Plus, many devices will run several agents.” In fact, speaking in a fireside chat at the event, Qualcomm’s Ben Timmons reckoned these numbers are undersold. “It’s going to be pretty quick for the agent to become central to everything you do in your personal and worklife. In two years’ time I predict people will be letting their agents have access to financial data too – they will be converted,” he stated.

The future doesn’t seem particularly bright for Generative AI pioneer OpenAI, with a prediction that OpenAI has a debt restructuring and CEO Sam Altman is shown the door by 2028.

It’s forecast that the company will fail to convince investors it has a viable commercial model, while struggling with escalating costs, concerns about data centres’ electricity and water use, and the high price of silicon needed to power AI services.

It’s been a busy week for AI-RAN, with chief proponent Nvidia unveiling a bevy of operator trial deals. But it’s US carrier T-Mobile US set to be the first operator to deploy AI radio access network technology according to the analysts, following an AI-RAN voice call first earlier this month.

Satellite
There’s mixed feelings on the future of Elon Musk’s SpaceX/Starlink operation.

On the one hand, there is a bold prediction that by 2030 Veon Group (Starlink’s biggest operator customer to date) will be bought by SpaceX, but there are also major concerns: one forecast fears SpaceX fails to win any mobile satellite spectrum in the EU’s allocation in 2027 and in the same year the EU backs a third satellite ecosystem to rival Starlink and AST SpaceMobile (built around Elveo and SES).

This latter prediction is fuelled by the big news this week that several major European operator groups are teaming on an alternative to Musk’s offering.

6G
The standout prediction in this category is a real surprise: Apple, typically a laggard when it comes to supporting brand new generations of mobile networks (the first iPhone didn’t even connect to 3G, with most users relying on Wi-Fi for fast browsing speeds), will have a 6G iPhone available alongside the first 6G commercial networks.

This change in tack will be thanks to Apple now producing its own cellular modem.

Elsewhere, analysts predicted operators in all initial 6G markets will launch 5G-Advanced first, and one in 10 smartphones sold in 2030 will support 6G (the earliest target date for commercial 6G launch is generally accepted as 2029).

Operators
Following recent high-profile mergers in Spain, the UK and France, FDM CCS Insight expects Germany to be the next European market to see consolidation. Specifically, in 2027, German operator 1&1 is acquired by one of its rivals – and Telefonica is tipped to be the most likely buyer of the country’s fourth player.

Meanwhile, Romania-based Digi Communications – already making a name for itself as one of Europe’s fastest-rising challenger brands with a presence in Spain, Belgium, Portugal and Italy – is tipped to enter three new European markets by 2028.

Devices
There are some quirky forecasts for the device market.

Following months of significant backlash against people wearing Meta’s smart version of the Ray-Ban Wayfarers, in 2027 sales of regular Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses will plummet as people become fearful of others demanding they take them off, without realising they are just regular sunglasses. And regulatory action in this area will ramp up: in 2028, the analysts predict that ‘camera in use’ indicators will become mandatory on wearable AI devices sold in the EU.

And in a nod to at least one Black Mirror episode, a smart contact lens is predicted to receive regulatory approval in a major market by 2031.

Finally, the trend toward longer device life cycles and a more circular approach to smartphone ownership (fuelled in part by mounting industry costs) spells bad news for the low-cost smartphone market. By 2028, the sub-$150 retail tier will disappear from major smartphone markets in the West, a prediction FDM CCS Insight senior partner Ben Wood describes as “a big blow” for manufacturers who have relied on ultralow-cost devices to boost sales volumes and expand access to mobile technology.

A Electronic Arts comunicou esta semana a decisão de encerrar a BioWare, um estúdio de videojogos com mais de 30 anos de história que trabalhou em sagas como “Baldur’s Gate”, “Neverwinter Nights”, “Dragon Age” e “Mass Effect”.

Os aficionados por videojogos e fãs destas sagas lamentaram a decisão da Electronic Arts, que foi acompanhada pelo despedimento de cerca de 400 pessoas. Além disso, o encerramento da BioWare significa também que a produção de um novo “Mass Effect”, que já estava em desenvolvimento, também será cancelada.

Pois bem, pouco depois de o encerramento da BioWare ser oficial, foi partilhado no Reddit um trailer deste jogo que estava em desenvolvimento. Como conta o site PC Gamer, não se sabe quem foi o responsável pela partilha deste trailer que, como poderá comprovar qualquer jogador que tenha tido contacto com “Mass Effect” reúne elementos bem conhecidos da série.

Além de apresentar um novo protagonista acompanhado por Liara T'Soni (uma personagem icónica da série e que marcou presença na trilogia original), o trailer indica que o jogo se chamaria “Mass Effect: Universe”. A existência deste trailer parece contrariar a ideia que havia sido passada pela Electronic Arts de que o desenvolvimento do jogo estava no início.

Um utilizador do Reddit, que afirma ser um trabalhador da Electronic Arts, diz que o trailer é real, com o jornalista Jason Schreier, da Bloomberg, a também indicar ter tido informações de que o vídeo foi produzido para promover o novo “Mass Effect”.

“Posso confirmar que este é um trailer real para o jogo de ‘Mass Effect’ que a BioWare estava a desenvolver até ser encerrada”, escreveu Schreier na rede social Bluesky.

Com estes (fortes) sinais de que o trailer é, de facto, do novo “Mass Effect” que se encontrava em desenvolvimento, os fãs têm-se mostrados entristecidos pela possibilidade de, potencialmente, este novo título nunca ver a luz do dia.

Apesar de o último jogo da série - “Mass Effect: Andromeda”, lançado em 2017 - não ter sido aclamado pela crítica, a trilogia original continua a ser considerada uma das sagas mais icónicas dos videojogos, tanto que a Prime Video se encontra a desenvolver uma série baseada na saga.

De acordo com o site IGN esta série de “Mass Effect” continua a ser produzida pela Prime Video, não tendo portanto sido afetada pelo encerramento da BioWare.

Ainda que nos últimos anos estejamos a ver cada vez mais pessoas a recorrem a auriculares com fios, a verdade é que as propostas sem fios continuam a ser igualmente populares.

Uma nova startup nos EUA tem como objetivo criar cães geneticamente modificados para serem usados em conflitos armados pelo exército. Mais ainda, estes cães também serão equipados com tecnologia de ponta.

A startup dá pelo nome de Warhound e é um projeto criado por Ben Lamm da Colossal Biosciences e por Palmer Lucker - conhecido pela Oculus VR (entretanto adquirida pela Meta) e pela empresa de defesa Anduril. A Warhound já conseguiu 200 milhões de dólares (178,5 milhões de euros) em financiamento.

Em conversa com a revista Wired, Lamm explicou que a Warhound já recolheu genes doados por cães de raças usadas por militares, forças da autoridade e serviços de emergência. Entre estas raças estão o Pastor Belga Malinois, o Pastor Alemão e alguns Labradores.

O objetivo imediato passa por trabalhar esses genes para remover os problemas de saúde que normalmente aflige os cães destas raças. Posteriormente, a ideia passa por melhorar os genes para os tornar mais rápidos, fortes e com um faro mais apurado. Uma vez completada esta etapa, a Warhound vai clonar estes cães, com as primeiras ninhadas a terem previsão de nascer no começo de 2027.

No que diz respeito a equipamento, a Anduril estará encarregue de desenvolver coletes protetores, armadura e também óculos para melhorar o desempenho destes cães nos campos de batalha.

Sabe-se que o CEO da Warhound é David Spirk, que trabalhou recentemente na Palantir - empresa de defesa que tem Peter Thiel como um dos fundadores.

Não satisfeita em ter lançado este ano três telemóveis dobráveis, parece que a Samsung planeia anunciar mais um modelo para esta categoria e que o anúncio acontecerá mais cedo do que se pensava.

A Samsung revelará oficialmente um novo telemóvel dobrável no dia 29 de outubro e, de acordo com a página Ice Universe na rede social X, este dispositivo chamar-se-á Samsung W27.

Alegadamente, este Samsung W27 contará com as mesmas especificações do Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, mas conta com um acabamento e pormenores que o apontam para o mercado de luxo. Como pode ver abaixo na fotografia partilhada no X, o Samsung W27 tem uma face traseira em azul escuro, com dourado a ser aplicado não só à estrutura como também ao módulo de câmara.

Se nos guiarmos por versões anteriores desta linha de telemóveis W que é lançada todos os anos na China, acredita que o Samsung W27 contará com mais memória RAM. De resto é esperado que tenha o mesmo ecrã interno de 8 polegadas, ecrã externo de 6,5 polegadas, um processador Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 e uma bateria de 5.000mAh.

Teremos de aguardar por mais pormenores mas, por enquanto, parece que a Samsung continua a apostar no futuro da empresa nos telemóveis dobráveis.

Samsung planeia lançar seis telemóveis dobráveis em 2027

Os últimos indicadores apontam para que a Apple tenha todos os motivos para ficar satisfeita com o lançamento do iPhone Duo, o primeiro telemóvel dobrável da empresa que tem lançamento marcado para o dia 23 de outubro.

A Samsung, com mais experiência neste tipo de dispositivos, pretende aproveitar este momento de entusiasmo com a categoria dos dobráveis e, de acordo com recentes rumores, planeia lançar seis modelos em 2027.

A informação foi avançada pela página TheGalox_ na rede social X, a qual afirma que, além de novas versões de dobráveis já existentes - como o Galaxy Z Flip9, o Galaxy Z Fold9, o Galaxy Z Fold9 Ultra e o Galaxy Z TriFold2 - a Samsung também planeia lançar o Galaxy Z Fold9 Pro e o Galaxy Z Slide.

“O alinhamento do Galaxy Z para 2027 será o maior de sempre nos dobráveis, com melhorias na bateria, na espessura e no peso em todos os modelos”, afirma o responsável por esta página.

Dos modelos citados, é natural que vejamos novas gerações do Galaxy Z Flip, do Galaxy Z Fold e também do Galaxy Z Fold Ultra, com a nova versão do Galaxy Z TriFold a ser sem dúvida a mais entusiasmante deste lote. É bom lembrar que o Galaxy Z TriFold original esteve disponível apenas por alguns meses, com os fãs da Samsung a ficarem certamente satisfeitos com a possibilidade de haver uma nova geração.

Quanto ao Galaxy Z Fold9 Pro, acredita-se que este modelo será uma versão melhorada do Galaxy Z Fold9 - o sucessor do bem recebido Galaxy Z Fold8, que introduziu este um design semelhante a um passaporte que também foi adotado pela Apple com o iPhone Duo.

Por fim, o Galaxy Z Slide deverá ser o primeiro telemóvel dobrável da Samsung com ecrã enrolável. Os rumores apontam para que este telemóvel tenha um ecrã que pode esticar-se e oferecer assim aos utilizadores um maior painel de acordo com as suas necessidades.

Ainda é cedo para sabermos os planos que a Samsung tem para o seu catálogo de dobráveis para o próximo ano mas, por agora, tudo indica que o mercado de dobráveis está prestes a crescer de forma substancial.

This is an as-told-to essay based on a conversation with Nick Woodhead, founder of the AI company GPTree and chief technology officer at Rothco and Compubox. He spoke with Business Insider on Thursday to share how he's responded to vulnerabilities in the PHP programming language that could affect the majority of the world's websites. The following has been edited for brevity and clarity.

It's always a nightmare when these things happen. Since Tuesday evening, I haven't slept. It's coming close to 48 hours working on this. I'm a CTO, but I also run an agency for multiple clients and have my own company with my own product. So, balancing my time to get everything updated — it's just been exhausting.

About 70% of the internet runs on a programming language called PHP. I'm actively involved within the PHP community itself, so I did get a warning on Tuesday evening regarding the vulnerability and the fact that it was already being addressed by the PHP team. That gave me a head start.

I have some teams offshore, so I was able to jump on that with them.

It's not just applying the patches. It's making sure that nothing was already exposed. We already had infrastructure in place to easily deploy patches, but it still requires a good amount of manual involvement.

I knew that as soon as I walked into the office on Wednesday, I'd have to have my teams jump on this. They were already waiting for the patches to be released.

People are willing to help

One of the biggest headaches, especially on the client side, is that we have a lot of legacy systems, which are running on older versions of PHP that are no longer supported, and official patches are not going to be produced. For those, we ultimately had to come up with other plans. For example, taking sites temporarily offline or moving them behind VPNs.

Eventually, because it's an open-source community, those patches have already been backported, or implemented, by the community. So now we're shuffling back to some of those older systems to get them patched.

That's one of the nice things about PHP. There's such a vast community of people all willing to roll up their sleeves and jump in and help.

Even though I've been in leadership for the last 10 years, I've never taken my hand off the pulse in terms of being connected with the code and the infrastructure. So, I've been hands-on with the development and infrastructure teams to help make sure these issues are resolved. We've been reviewing logs and looking for any potential signatures of a breach that this vulnerability exposed.

The month of hell

It's also meant keeping up to speed with the latest news that's coming out and what other people are finding. We're in a position now where we feel comfortable and safe, but there are new vulnerabilities in the coding tool Node.js. We have some Node services, so now we're looking at how that potentially affects us. October just seems like the month of hell from a technology perspective.

I don't think there is an end in sight with the advancements in AI. For all the positives we get from it, there are a whole bunch of negatives, and this is a perfect example.

OpenAI has already stated that they found many more of these types of vulnerabilities that, thankfully, haven't been leaked. Over the coming months, they are either going to be patches or this information is going to get leaked in the same way and cause the same kind of panic.

I don't think we're at the end of the road yet. There's going to be a lot more to come.

Alguns dos maiores bancos dos EUA estão a detetar a presença de agentes de Inteligência Artificial em contas de clientes, afirma o site Axios com base em relatos de fontes com conhecimento desta situação.

Estas mesmas fontes indicam que os agentes de Inteligência Artificial estão a agir independentemente das instruções dos utilizador, algo que está a preocupar os responsáveis pelas áreas de cibersegurança destas instituções bancárias.

Sabe-se até que, em alguns casos, os clientes destes bancos partilharam as suas credenciais de acesso com agentes de Inteligência Artificial, com os bancos a não terem forma de considerar as transações feitas por estes agentes como não autorizadas a partir do momento que contam com as credenciais de acesso.

Sabe-se que a Morgan Stanley já decidiu bloquear o acesso de agentes de Inteligência Artificial de terceiros às suas plataformas, com a publicação a adiantar que não haviam sido detetadas situações de acesso não autorizado de agentes de Inteligência Artificial a agirem de forma autónoma.

Recorda a Reuters que, no começo deste mês, O CEO da JPMorgan Chase, Jamie Dimon, explicou que a instituição bancária estava a tomar medidas para prevenir que agentes de Inteligência Artificial agissem de forma autónoma dentro dos seus próprios sistemas. “Não vamos permitir que qualquer agente [de Inteligência Artificial] entre na empresa, porque é demasiado arriscado para os clientes e para a JPMorgan”, afirmou Dimon.

A mesma ideia foi reforçada pelo CEO da Charles Schwab, Richard Wuster, que afirmou que a plataforma também havia bloqueado o acesso de agentes de Inteligência Artificial. “Recebo um relatório todos os dias sobre a quantidade de vezes que tivemos de bloquear um dos diferentes agentes”, disse Wuster, adiantando que de momento as ocasiões não eram tão numerosas quanto se possa pensar.

“Estamos a bloquear [agentes] porque queremos controlar a autenticação e a experiência”, explicou Wuster.
