The shift prioritizes a streamlined aesthetic where the focal point is the precise execution of a line rather than the volume of the pigment.
Chromium and Geometric Lines
A distinct variation emerging in professional circles is the ultra-thin metallic French tip. This technique replaces the broad white band with a narrow, chromium-like line along the free edge of the nail, mimicking the precision of fine jewelry. To maintain a balanced look, this metallic strip is typically applied over a milky, translucent, or soft pink base. The finish can range from traditional silver and pale gold to a colder, icy metallic tone.
The geometry of the line serves a practical purpose for nail shape. On shorter nail lengths, a wide, shiny band can visually compress the fingertip. Conversely, a delicate, thin line helps elongate the appearance of the nail plate, creating a more slender silhouette for the hand.

Working with dark matte coatings demands a high level of precision in nail plate preparation. Unlike glossy finishes, which can mask minor surface irregularities through light refraction, matte surfaces highlight any unevenness in the base application, making the preparation stage critical to the final aesthetic.
