Brett Goldstein, the comedian who ran a strip club in Marbella before finding fame with 'Ted Lasso'

6 October 2026 at 16:40

“He’s here, he’s there, he’s every fucking where: Roy Kent, Roy Kent!” chants the loyal Richmond crowd in tribute to the captain of the struggling English football club at the heart of the TV series Ted Lasso. It seemed almost prophetic of what awaited Brett Goldstein, the 46-year-old actor who plays the gruff Kent. Since joining the hit Apple TV comedy’s main cast, having originally been hired only as a writer, he has gone from being virtually unknown outside the United Kingdom to starring in a romantic comedy with Jennifer Lopez, appearing alongside Harrison Ford in a television series, and becoming Marvel’s new Hercules.

6 October 2026 at 16:23
A bronze sword that spent more than three thousand years underwater has come out of an Italian lake with its edge still sharp. Underwater archaeologists from the Soprintendenza of Viterbo (the state body that protects archaeological heritage in each Italian province) recovered it from Lake Mezzano, a small volcanic lake in Lazio, the region around […]

Roman Frescoes Found Beside the Spot Where Greeks Once Voted in Agrigento

More than 2,000 years ago, the hilltop where archaeologists are now digging in Sicily’s Valley of the Temples was where the free citizens of Akragas met to decide their city’s business. Akragas is the Greek name for Agrigento. The place is marked by a semicircular set of stone seating that scholars call an ekklesiasterion (from […]

Key points from the Supreme Court in the case against the oil companies. What is being judged? What are the repercussions?

The first hearing of the Supreme Court’s new term on Monday addressed one of the most consequential cases for the U.S. energy sector: The City of Boulder v. Suncor Energy, a lawsuit regarded as one of the major battles over liability for climate change. Framed by many as a David-and-Goliath dispute, the City of Boulder, Colorado, sued two oil companies seeking accountability for climate change. Justices heard the parties’ arguments for roughly two hours and questioned lawyers on technical and jurisdictional matters. These are the key points in one of the most important court battles expected in the coming months.

A Bronze Age Man Buried Under a Doorway With a Stone in His Mouth in Southeastern Spain May Have Been Trampled Like Egypt’s Enemies

Around 3,700 years ago, anyone crossing the great hall at La Almoloya, a hilltop settlement in the Sierra Espuña mountains of southeastern Spain, had to walk over a man. He lay at the exact point where the two halves of the room meet, his lower body under the hearth and his face about a centimeter […]

Venezuela confirms it did not seek Nicolás Maduro’s release or request immunity to prevent US trial

6 October 2026 at 10:20

“There is only one president in this country and his name is Nicolás Maduro Moros,” Venezuela’s current interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, said on the same day as the U.S. attack that ended with the detention of the former chavista leader and his wife, Cilia Flores. Rodríguez described the military intervention in Caracas as an “illegal and illegitimate kidnapping of the president and first lady.” However, Venezuela later did not take any formal steps to demand the couple’s release or to request their immunity so they would not be tried in the United States.

A Bronze Ring Engraved With the Lighthouse of Alexandria Has Been Found in Cleopatra’s Sunken Harbour

The Lighthouse of Alexandria has been gone for more than seven centuries. A series of earthquakes, including those of 1303 and 1323, brought down the tower that had guided ships towards the city for some sixteen hundred years. Its outline has now turned up on the seabed again, shrunk to the size of a ring. […]

The Field That Was India Inside Bangladesh Inside India Inside Bangladesh — The World’s Only “Russian Doll” Territory Vanished in 2015

6 October 2026 at 08:55
For decades, one of the oddest spots on the world’s political map was a patch of farmland roughly the size of a soccer pitch. It was called Dahala Khagrabari (enclave number 51) and it belonged to India. It sat inside a piece of Bangladesh, which lay inside a pocket of Indian territory, which was itself […]
