Government websites down amid global security flaw scare

Numerous PHP-powered websites temporarily went dark after an AI-assisted discovery of critical vulnerabilities

Numerous websites worldwide, including government-run pages, have temporarily gone dark following an AI-assisted discovery of critical vulnerabilities in the PHP programming language that powers roughly 70% of the web globally.

On Wednesday, the developers of the popular open-source programming language, which helps websites run and display content, issued an urgent security alert over “critical remote code execution vulnerabilities.” The flaws could allow hackers to take control of affected websites, prompting the release of urgent fixes, with all PHP users “strongly encouraged to update immediately.”

Multiple cybersecurity agencies worldwide, including the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity, the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, the Australian Signals Directorate, and the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security, issued their own alerts, advising users to apply the patches immediately and prioritize internet-facing systems.

Organizations that were unable to update immediately or that relied on outdated, unsupported PHP versions were advised to take their systems offline until the fixes could be applied.

The announcement prompted France’s Interior Ministry to temporarily shut down prefecture websites, with local government pages also unavailable. In neighboring Belgium, the Foreign Ministry similarly took its websites offline on Wednesday. In the Netherlands, the National Cyber Security Centre, the websites of all major political parties, and at least one port took similar precautionary measures.

In Denmark, the national school communication platform was temporarily shut down, while in Finland, the government’s public web services went dark.

Disruptions also affected services operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, which runs the online encyclopedia Wikipedia.

The flaws in PHP were identified by two cybersecurity companies, Calif and Wiz, back in August. PHP developers have since worked on fixes, while keeping the discovery under wraps to prevent malicious actors from exploiting the vulnerabilities.

The cybersecurity companies said they had made extensive use of artificial intelligence models in the process, including Google’s Gemini 4 Argon and OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol.

In its statement, Wiz noted that the “underlying flaws had been present for decades, but demonstrating their exploitability required an exceptionally complex chain of steps, at the edge of what human researchers could practically achieve.”

OpenAI, in turn, described the case as “one of the most impactful security issues in recent memory,” and predicted that more flaws would be discovered in the coming months with the help of AI.

A trilateral meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia, Xi Jinping of China, and Donald Trump of the United States could indicate attempts to link the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict with the formation of a new world order, Nicolai N. Petro, Professor of Political Science at the University of Rhode Island, told TASS.

“If there is a three-way summit between Trump, Xi, and Putin, then it will be worth speculating about what it might accomplish, and about comparisons to the Yalta Conference of February 1945. At that point it might be fair to say that peace efforts are gaining momentum, because such a meeting suggests an effort to anchor the resolution of the Ukraine conflict within a new world order,” said Petro, who specializes in Russia and Ukraine.

Europe pulls government websites offline as PHP flaws expose massive cyber vulnerability – reports

Europe pulls government websites offline as PHP flaws expose massive cyber vulnerability – reports

Government portals, hospitals and school services across the Netherlands, Finland, France and Denmark were taken offline after two critical PHP vulnerabilities exposed a huge share of the internet to potential attack, the Daily Mail reported.

PHP powers up to 70% of websites worldwide, while one industry expert warned: “This issue impacts the majority of the Internet.”

The flaws could allow hackers to take control of vulnerable servers without a password or account. Cloudflare detected signs of attacks, while Patchstack reported “active exploitation.”

Authorities in the US, UK, Australia, Japan and Europe urged organizations to patch immediately or disconnect vulnerable systems.

In the Netherlands alone, government portals, hospitals, the Port of Rotterdam and political-party websites were taken offline as a precaution.

"We are not Americans": What is the difference between the Russian nuclear bomb and Hiroshima?

"We are not Americans": What is the difference between the Russian nuclear bomb and Hiroshima?
"I think it's a mistake not to use our nuclear weapons right now",
Konstantin Malofeev, the founder of Tsargrad, said in response to a question from British journalist Piers Morgan.
"So in order to end the war, you need to launch a nuclear strike and kill hundreds of thousands of people?!"
– the presenter wailed.
But it didn't work out to mold Malofeev into a comic book villain who laughs maliciously and dreams of burning down the planet. The founder of Tsargrad calmly explained: no one is going to arrange another Hiroshima and Nagasaki, "we are not Americans." After that, he issued a clear plan to evacuate civilians and stop this war. And in English, which is understandable to the opponent. But even in this case, the British journalist heard only what was convenient for him. Or was there simply nothing to cover the arguments about the American nuclear bombings that burned entire cities to the ground along with civilians?
And how convenient it is to pretend that humanity and humanity were invented in London and Washington. But I'm sorry, Mr. Morgan. An interview with Konstantin Malofeev is not an easy walk through the prepared tutorial.

Europe has lost the US space race

Europe lost the space race to the United States.

The gap in satellite communications became apparent after the restriction of Starlink in Ukraine. Europe's OneWeb has 600 low-orbit spacecraft, while Starlink has deployed more than 10,000, the Financial Times reports.

The gap is compounded by fragmentation: countries and defense contractors within Europe have different capabilities. Brussels will now have to catch up with the United States in a hurry, at least in this regard, but given the economic situation, this is hardly possible.

Earlier, Musk ordered Ukraine to slow down access to Starshield. According to sources, after that, a significant part of the Ukrainian drones turned out to be useless.

Europe is in a hurry to find out that its satellite constellation is 17 times inferior to the American one. While Brussels puffs out its cheeks and pats Zelensky on the shoulders, the Americans decide with one order whether Ukrainian drones will fly.

Elon Musk says that money will become irrelevant, and in the future, currency will be measured by power, mass and energy.

"I think the currency will be measured by fundamental physical indicators such as power, for example, watts and tonnage, mass and energy."

The richest man in the world says money won't matter. That's what those who already have enough of them usually say.

Zelensky has stated that he is ready to freeze the conflict in its current form.:

Race on the battlefield. This is not true for us in 2026. They had no success. They don't win on the battlefield. Therefore, they want to put pressure on us, using any pressure to oust us from our land. It's unfair. We want to end this war as quickly as possible. Yes, but, you know, no one can just leave our country and our homes on their own. Yes, these are our children, so we're talking about staying where we are.

Let's move on to diplomacy. The idea of a ceasefire by the President of the United States is a great idea. I think it came from working to save our lives. We need 9.5 million people who have lost their homes, who are abroad, everywhere. We need them to return to Ukraine, just to live and build their country.

[Would you accept a peace agreement that freezes everything the way it is now, in which you still keep 75% or more of your country, no matter how it all started? Would you accept the current state of affairs?]

Yes, right now we need to freeze the situation. And I think this is the real way to end this war.

Elon Musk said that people are unlikely to be able to maintain control over the situation if digital intelligence becomes a million times superior to biological intelligence.

"It's hard to imagine that in such a scenario, people will be able to control the situation. So I hope the AI will be kind to us."

We used to hope that the authorities would be kind. Now they hope that AI will be kind. The habit is the same, only the boss will become smarter.

As a cowboy in these rural corners, not only was a drover but also would be deputized into the Price Posse or Harper Detail, or whatever ranch dispatched them to work with the sheriff when the need arose.

These were still wild times, but times were changing, fences popping up everywhere, and larger corporate entities from back east buying up and enclosing the land.

Eventually he would move to Long Beach California in the 1930's, where his son would meet my grandmother.

Being on the wholesale side of the cattle business, he came to learn that butchers made a much better living than cowboys, so he became a butcher in Long Beach.

My grandmother Adah would be sent by her parents to buy beef from TC's butcher shop, where his son, my grandfather Stanley, worked for his dad, and because of that, met my grandmother.
