A Hermès afirmou nesta quinta-feira (22) que o crescimento das vendas perdeu fôlego no terceiro trimestre, à medida que diminuem as esperanças de uma recuperação da demanda por artigos de luxo.
A casa de luxo francesa registrou receita de 4,1 bilhões de euros no trimestre encerrado em setembro, alta de 4,3% em relação ao mesmo período de um ano antes, a taxas de câmbio constantes.
No segundo trimestre, a fabricante parisiense de bolsas de alto padrão e lenços de seda havia registrado avanço orgânico de 6,7% na receita.
Empresas do setor de luxo vêm enfrentando um mercado difícil nos últimos anos, principalmente por causa da queda da demanda por produtos de alto padrão, sobretudo na China, onde marcas europeias também lidam com a concorrência crescente de grifes locais.
O momento de uma recuperação na China tem sido uma das principais dúvidas para a indústria, que passou a depender dos gastos dos consumidores mais ricos do país, dentro e fora de suas fronteiras.
No entanto, a economia chinesa segue instável, levando os consumidores a manter o orçamento apertado.

O filme “Memórias do Cárcere”, de Sérgio Graciano, a partir de um livro de memórias e de histórias de Camilo Castelo Branco passadas na prisão, estreia-se hoje em mais de 30 salas de cinema.
O filme, produzido pela Leopardo Filmes, é uma adaptação da obra “Memórias do Cárcere”, de Camilo Castelo Branco, e um dos últimos projetos a envolver o argumentista Carlos Saboga, que morreu em março passado.
A produtora descreve o filme como “um fascinante e vívido retrato” de Camilo Castelo Branco (1825-1890), quando esteve preso com Ana Plácido, no Porto, por causa de um “célebre processo por adultério que abalou a sociedade portuguesa do século XIX”.
No livro, Camilo Castelo Branco não só recorda as condições em que encarcerado na antiga Cadeia da Relação do Porto – onde escreveu o romance “Amor de Perdição” – como relata personagens e histórias de crime de outros reclusos.
O elenco do filme conta com Albano Jerónimo e Maria João Bastos nos principais papéis, além de Paulo Pires, Afonso Pimentel, João Pedro Vaz, Marcello Urgeghe e Adriano Carvalho, entre outros.
De acordo com a Leopardo Filmes, “Memórias do Cárcere” chega a mais de 30 salas de cinema, dias antes de ser apresentado em competição no Festival Internacional de Cinema de Tóquio, que começa no dia 26.
O filme tem estreia assegurada em França em março de 2027.
“Memórias do Cárcere” é o segundo filme realizado por Sérgio Graciano a estrear-se este ano nos cinemas portugueses, depois de “Playback”, dedicado ao músico Carlos Paião, que chegou às salas em agosto.
Sérgio Graciano tem no currículo a realização de várias produções para televisão, como as séries “Conta-me como foi” e “Auga Seca”, o programa “Último a Sair” e as telenovelas “Laços de Sangue” e “Prisioneira”.
Em 2012 estreou a primeira longa-metragem de ficção, “Assim Assim”, à qual se seguiram, entre outros, “Uma vida à espera” (2016), “Perdidos” (2017), “Linhas de sangue” (2018), “O som que desce na terra” (2021) e “Soares é fixe” 2024.
Com a Leopardo Filmes Sérgio Graciano também fez o filme “Os papéis do Inglês” (2024), a partir de uma trilogia literária de Ruy Duarte de Carvalho, e prepara, segundo esta produtora, o filme “Os Adeuses”, numa adaptação de uma obra de Juan Carlos Onetti e que será protagonizada pelo produtor Paulo Branco.
Russian missiles and drones killed one person and injured 24 in Kyiv overnight on 22 October, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office said. Damage spread across six of the city’s districts, the city military administration reported.
The strike came hours after Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said Putin had told Witkoff that Russia was “in principle” ready to resume three-way talks with the US and Ukraine in mid-November. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy read the overnight attack as a sign that Russia’s attitude has not changed. A day earlier, Russian drones killed two people in a 24-story Kyiv apartment block.
21 ballistic missiles in three waves
Russia fired 21 ballistic missiles at Kyiv overnight, Zelenskyy said. The barrage came in three waves, around 22:00, at about 02:00, and around 03:30.

Across Ukraine, air defenses downed or suppressed 181 of 210 Russian drones, the Air Force said. Its report did not mention any ballistic missiles shot down.
One killed in the Dniprovskyi district
The only death in Kyiv came in the Dniprovskyi district, on the city’s left bank. There, Russian strikes destroyed 13 detached houses on several streets, prosecutors said. Police said the man killed was 48 and that six people were injured in the district, four of them children, the youngest aged five.
Of the injured, five are minors and two are young children, and prosecutors reported acute stress reactions among them. A 16-year-old boy is in hospital with a closed head injury, prosecutors said. Sixteen of the injured were hospitalized, the city military administration said. The final number of injured is still being established.

Ambulance station and monastery damaged
In the Holosiivskyi, Obolonskyi, Pecherskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi districts, the attack damaged eight apartment buildings, prosecutors said. It also damaged a building-supply hypermarket, a restaurant, a monastery building, a post office, and office premises.
In Pecherskyi, Russia damaged an ambulance station and six ambulances, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote. The State Emergency Service said eight people were injured in that district, three of them children, and reported damaged transport infrastructure in the Darnytskyi district.

Bridge closed, metro line split
The strikes damaged metro infrastructure on the Pivdennyi (Southern) Bridge, Kyiv Metro said. As of the morning, green-line trains ran in two sections, Syrets–Vydubychi and Osokorky–Chervonyi Khutir. Inspections and repairs would continue after the all-clear, the metro said.
Oleksii Biloshytskyi, head of Ukraine’s Patrol Police Department, announced that traffic across the bridge toward the left bank was temporarily closed. The city is adding buses on routes 22 and 91, the city administration said. Russian drones had already hit the bridge repeatedly in early October.

EXCLUSIVE: Twenty-three years after Duane "Dog" Chapman chased fugitive Max Factor heir Andrew Luster to Mexico and tackled him on a Puerto Vallarta street, the convicted serial rapist is a free man â despite an initial sentence of 124 years.
"I hope he's smart enough â and he's smart â to never do anything like that again," Chapman told Fox News Digital Wednesday, more than two decades after the capture that helped make him a household name.
Chapman, his son Leland and several others went to Mexico after receiving a tip about Luster's whereabouts â months after he fled the U.S. in the middle of a California rape trial. They first identified him from the tipsters' photo, which showed a knee and a watch.
Chapman had been studying his face closely for weeks, but he also recognized the watch from a televised interview, he said. And he credits his son with first spotting Luster, who was speaking with a young woman in a bar on June 18, 2003.
"When I saw him, you talk about an adrenaline rush went through my body," Chapman told Fox News Digital Wednesday. "Tim got down . ..he snuck up behind him, and then I pushed him. He fell over. We all jumped on him, and I screamed, 'You're under arrest by the United States of America.'"
They pulled him into an SUV and drove off â only to be intercepted on the road outside town by Mexican authorities who arrested everyone amid the chaos.
Luster claimed he'd been kidnapped, Chapman said, so he handed the lead investigator what Chapman called a "bible" of information on the case.
Luster, the great-grandson of makeup mogul Max Factor, vanished during a recess in his trial and was convicted in absentia on 86 counts involving the drugging and raping of three women between 1996 and 2000 at his home in Mussel Shoals, California.
One of the victims, who asked not to be named out of concerns for her safety, said she's still struggling to comprehend Luster's release even though she knew it was
"Itâs very unsettling knowing that he is not behind bars, not in a closed facility," she told Fox News Digital Wednesday. "He is out in the public, in a community that just â it just doesnât feel very good at all."
She said she has concerns for her own safety, her family, Luster's other victims and even investigators after a notebook containing a "payback list" was recovered from his Mexican hotel room â with their names on it.
She said she dated Luster for five or six months without knowing she'd been drugged and raped the night they met â something detectives discovered years later, after they recovered videotapes from the home.
"It was me, comatose on his bed, wearing the clothes that I was wearing the first night I met him," she said. "Thatâs how I knew when it happened, because I had just bought that outfit, and I was wearing it the night that I met him. So thatâs how I figured out when it happened to me, which was absolutely horrifying."
Police found more than 100 videos, she said. Not all of them involved criminal activity, but those that did were "mortifying," she said, as Luster spoke to the camera like he were playing with "a toy."
"Theyâre pretty brutal," she added. "The things that he did to us while we were completely unconscious were things that, I mean, had we been able to feel anything, it would have been awful. He narrated the video and talked to the camera throughout and thoroughly enjoyed the whole entire thing."
He initially received consecutive sentences totaling 124 years â later reduced to 50, and he was released earlier this month after over two decades behind bars.
Prosecutors had opposed early release in 2024 and again in 2025. However, he was able to earn substantial early release credits under California's controversial Proposition 57 criminal justice reforms, and his prison term came to an end on Oct. 11.
"I did not know that [Prop 57] meant that it was gonna make Andrew Lusterâs crimes be deemed nonviolent," Doe No. 3 told Fox News Digital. "Thatâs just so baffling. I just feel like if anybody could watch these tapes of what he did to me and all of these other women, just to look at that and try to put the word nonviolent on it, that word could not come out of your mouth. It just would be impossible."
Doe was among those who successfully lobbied for changes to the law to close that nonviolent loophole.
Chapman said he never received the bounty for Luster and lost hundreds of thousands of dollars of his own money for the operation and ensuing legal fallout.
Mexican law did not allow bounty hunters to apprehend fugitives. Chapman said he was arrested alongside his son Leland, longtime friend and associate Tim Chapman, who is not a blood relative, and members of a camera crew.
"He told me, 'Iâm going to get him for you,' and he did," Doe said of Chapman. So to help him get out after he put Luster back behind bars, she kicked off a legal fundraiser that she said attracted donations from around the country.
As part of the series, he plans to help bail out certain inmates with a history of good behavior and positive reports â but not for people facing serious felonies or sex abuse charges, he said.
"We'll call out the ones that deserve a second chance, right, and you can't be perfect OK, so if they run, yeehaw," he said. "I don't wish they would, but if they do, then I'm going to catch them."
Washington and Israel have devised new plans to strike Iran again after the U.S. midterm elections, The New York Times reports, citing senior U.S. officials and other sources. The planning comes as the armed forces of both countries have stepped up military maneuvers in the region to rehearse bombing missions, and as the State Department has ordered nonessential embassy staff and their families to evacuate Saudi Arabia amid the prospect of possible new attacks by Houthi rebels in Yemen. It also comes as Israel prepares for an election in which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is fighting for re-election.
The European Union has moved to reduce the administrative burden imposed on smaller businesses by its packaging legislation, agreeing a negotiating position that would relax requirements for companies selling limited quantities of packaged goods in other member states.
The Council adopted its position on 21st October, proposing an exemption from the obligation to appoint an authorised representative in another EU country when the amount of packaging placed on that country’s market remains below one tonne per calendar year.
The measure addresses complaints from small and medium-sized enterprises that the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, which became applicable on 12th August 2026, creates unnecessary expenses for companies engaged in relatively modest volumes of cross-border commerce.
The proposal forms part of the EU’s eighth legislative simplification package and will now be negotiated with the European Parliament.
Cross-border compliance costs under scrutiny
Under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, businesses placing packaging or packaged products on the European market are subject to obligations concerning waste management and extended producer responsibility.
The extended producer responsibility system requires producers to contribute to the management of waste generated by products and packaging placed on the market.
For businesses operating across borders, the framework also includes requirements concerning authorised representatives in member states where producers are not established.
These representatives perform specified compliance functions and provide a point of contact for national authorities.
The system can create substantial administrative obligations for businesses trading in several countries, particularly when the quantity of packaging supplied to individual markets is limited.
A small Belgian retailer, for example, may sell products to customers in Germany, France and the Netherlands without maintaining physical operations in those countries.
The requirement to arrange representation separately across different markets can add compliance costs regardless of whether the volume of trade justifies them.
Under the Council’s proposal, eligible EU-based producers placing less than one tonne of packaging annually on another member state’s market could be exempted from appointing a representative there.
The threshold would be assessed by reference to the quantity placed on the market of the member state concerned.
However, the proposed exemption would not abolish the wider principle of extended producer responsibility or automatically release businesses from their other environmental obligations.
Packaging reform follows early implementation problems
The regulatory changes come only two months after the EU’s revised packaging framework began applying across the single market.
The legislation, Regulation (EU) 2025/40, is intended to reduce packaging waste, improve recyclability and establish more consistent requirements for products and packaging materials.
It covers an extensive range of commercial activities, including manufacturing, retail, food distribution, transport packaging and online sales.
The Council’s latest agreement represents a further legislative step, replacing general calls for administrative relief with a specific negotiating position.
The Commission also issued detailed implementation guidance in June 2026 after receiving numerous questions from member states and businesses about how the regulation should be interpreted.
Safeguards and temporary exemption
The proposed exemption would not apply without conditions.
The Council’s negotiating mandate includes a safeguard allowing the relevant authorities to respond when a producer fails to comply with extended producer responsibility obligations.
It also provides for the European Commission to review the duration of the temporary suspension by 31st December 2030, ahead of its scheduled expiry in 2032.
The timetable reflects the possibility that broader reform of producer responsibility arrangements could replace the temporary measure.
The Commission is preparing a Circular Economy Act intended to address additional problems affecting Europe’s recycling and secondary raw materials markets.
That initiative could provide a more comprehensive framework for the administration of producer responsibility systems across member states.
For now, the Council has opted for a narrower intervention designed to reduce the immediate burden on smaller companies without reopening the entire packaging regulation.
Single market objectives and environmental obligations
The proposal also reflects a broader problem with European regulatory integration.
Although companies can sell goods throughout the single market, compliance requirements often remain administered through national systems, requiring businesses to deal with separate authorities and procedures.
For multinational corporations, such costs can be distributed across substantial commercial operations. For smaller exporters and online retailers, similar administrative requirements can consume a much greater proportion of turnover.
The Council argues that removing unnecessary representation requirements would support cross-border trade while preserving the objectives of European environmental legislation.
The Irish presidency will now seek agreement with the European Parliament on the proposed amendment.
Until that legislation is adopted and becomes applicable, businesses must continue to comply with the existing rules, including relevant national producer responsibility requirements.
