Vance condemns 'disgraceful' WNBA national anthem walkouts, says players should show more gratitude

Vice President JD Vance sharply called out WNBA players in the league finals over skipping the national anthem during an interview Wednesday, calling them "disgraceful."

Players from both the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries have left the court during the national anthem before the first two games of the WNBA Finals, despite a rule in the league’s own rulebook specifically calling for players to stand and line up during the performance.

"I think it's disgraceful," Vance told host Raymond Arroyo on "Arroyo Grande." "I think that you should not express some criticism of a public policy of a given politician by disrespecting the country writ large. I mean, those women who play for the WNBA, think of the public safety, think of the incredible wealth and privilege, the amazing jobs that they have. They have a lot to be grateful to the United States for, and I think that if they had a bit more of a spirit of gratitude, they'd be happier people, and they wouldn't offend so many people as well."

Vance also appeared to cite Saint Augustine’s idea of Ordo Amoris, a concept from Catholic thought that Vance cited in 2025 to defend administration deportation policies.

NBA STAYS SILENT ON WNBA FINALS TEAMS SKIPPING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM BEFORE GAMES 1 AND 2

"I've gotten some trouble talking about this, but I'll just talk about it again," Vance said. "One of the ways I understand the Catholic understanding is that we have various orders of duty, and you know, our closest and most immediate duty, of course, is to our family and to the people in our immediate circle. But we, of course, owe duties to the entire world. We owe duties to the stranger. But I also think a good and coherent understanding of the Christian self is that you are part of a national community."

He added, "Whether you were born in the United States or whether you came here by choice, this is your country. And I think that we're all meant to love it. We're all meant to try to make it the best version of itself. But fundamentally, I think, without love of country, I think that you're going to be a disordered human being."

Fox News Digital spoke to veteran GOP strategist Mary Marslender, who argued, like Vance, that the basketball players lack perspective on how great it is to live in the United States.

OUTKICK READERS BLAST WNBA PLAYERS FOR HIDING DURING FINALS NATIONAL ANTHEM

"The WNBA players are treating a country that has given them extraordinary privileges as if it were an oppressor, while ignoring that American women enjoy rights and opportunities that remain rare or nonexistent for most women elsewhere," she said. "They seem to forget that a league like the WNBA exists and its players can publicly dissent without fear of state reprisal solely because of these rights and opportunities. If these activists hate this country that much, they are free to leave it. The rest of us are done with this disrespect."

Fox News Digital reached out to the WNBA, as well as the Women's National Basketball Players Association, and did not receive an immediate reply.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are kicking the tires on letting fans store their ashes at their stadium

The Jacksonville Jaguars are preparing to take a trip down I-95 and I-4 (godspeed) to play in Orlando next season while EverBank Stadium undergoes a massive, $1.4 billion renovation.

One that will include a canopy, wider concourses, and, if there's enough interest, something not usually found in NFL stadiums: a place to store your ashes after you die.

Honestly, you kids will be glad to have the space on their mantle... Do people even have mantles anymore?

NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS FANS ARE DROPPING SERIOUS MONEY ON OLD STADIUM URINAL TROUGHS

According to Front Office Sports, some fans have already ponied up as much as $6,000 to be part of a new project dubbed the "904Ever Club."

This is being done in conjunction with the team's "official fan memories partner," Eternal Fan. The plan is to install a 14-by-14-foot memorial that will contain fans' personal artifacts, including their most personal artifacts: their ashes.

The top tier costs a cool $5,904, which is a lot, and it obviously begs the question: would you do this if you could have your cremains interred at your team's stadium?

I think it depends on your team. If you're a long-suffering fan of, like the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Pirates, or, in my case, Philadelphia Flyers, do you want to spend the rest of eternity (or at least until your team moves to a new stadium or arena) being reminded of the agonizing defeats?

No... but it would still be pretty cool to tell people where you're headed before you take the ol' dirt nap.

Considering the Jaguars already have a hefty bill to pay for these stadium renovations, one of the best parts for them is that while Eternal Fan gets the revenue from the packages sold, it's also on them to build and maintain the memorial, which includes annual fees to the team.

6 things I wish I knew before setting foot on a cruise ship that all first-timers should keep in mind

Left: The author on the top deck of a cruise ship with wind in her hair Right: The same cruise ship deck seen at night with colorful lights
The reporter's first cruise was a seven-day voyage aboard Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas.

Joey Hadden/Business Insider

  • If I could take my first cruise again, I'd pick up a case of water on my way to the port.
  • I'd pack a bar of laundry soap.
  • And I'd leave my formal dress at home.

The closest thing I'd seen to a cruise ship was the Staten Island ferry.

That changed in April 2022, when I left my home in NYC to take my first cruise. I flew to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for a seven-night voyage on one of the largest cruise ships in the world, Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas. We sailed to Roatán, Honduras; Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico; and Royal Caribbean's private island in the Bahamas.

I had a good time, but some things would've made my trip easier, cheaper, and more comfortable. Here's what I think all first-time cruisers should know before setting sail.

Some cruise ship cabins, like those at the front of the ship, can be rockier than others.

The reporter's room was at the front of the ship.

Joey Hadden/Business Insider

Before booking, I should have researched how a cabin's location can affect how much motion you feel while the ship is moving.

My ocean-view cabin was at the front of the ship, and I felt more movement than I expected. As a first-time cruiser, I found it uncomfortably rocky. Shaky nights made it tough to sleep.

Several seasoned cruisers on the voyage told me that the front of the ship was one of the worst places to feel motion. Higher decks in the middle of the ship felt calmer and more stable.

If you are as prone to motion sickness as I am, I suggest choosing a room in the middle of the ship.

The restaurants included in the cruise rate had a variety of high-quality dishes, so splurging on specialty restaurants wasn't necessary.

Joey Hadden/Business Insider

One of the most distinctive things about cruising is that most meals, snacks, and drinks are included in the cruise rate.

However, on Wonder of the Seas and many other mega-ships, more than a dozen restaurants with specialty offerings, such as sushi, are not included and incur additional charges, either as a one-time fee or per dish. I paid $40 to $60 for each specialty meal.

I reserved all specialty restaurants before my trip, but I found myself wishing I hadn't booked so many once I realized the included restaurants offered a wide range of delicious food.

There were multiple buffets, and the main dining room served a three-course meal with changing menu items each night.

These included options that satisfied every craving. One of the best meals I had was in the main dining room.

Since I booked so many specialty restaurants, I didn't have time to try all the buffets or eat in the main dining room more than once. If I had known they'd be so satisfying, I would've saved money and eaten more of the included meals instead.

Formal nights weren't enforced, so don't waste luggage space on nice outfits if you don't want to participate.

Joey Hadden/Business Insider

I have an aversion to dressing up, but I knew my cruise included formal nights, so I brought one nice dress. After the first formal night, however, I learned that the dress code wasn't strictly enforced. I noticed people wore a variety of outfits, from suits and evening gowns to T-shirts and track pants.

I was happy to relax my look on the other two formal nights, but the dress felt like a waste of the limited space in my carry-on suitcase. If I had known it wasn't necessary, I would've left it at home and brought multiple other articles in its place.

Though it was a Caribbean cruise, I got chilly on the top decks, so bring some warm clothing.

Joey Hadden/Business Insider

My favorite times to be on the top decks of the ship were early in the morning and late at night, when there weren't as many crowds. These were also the coldest, windiest parts of the day.

Instead of my shiny, poofy, formal dress, I should've brought another pair of pants and another sweater to keep me warm. Since I didn't, I ended up wearing the same pants and sweater nearly every morning and evening.

Laundry on board can be expensive, so consider bringing a bar of laundry soap to save money.

Joey Hadden/Business Insider

Since I brought only a carry-on luggage, I hoped to get some laundry done on board, but then I saw the pricing sheet.

Living in New York City, most of the apartments I've rented haven't had in-unit laundry, so I'm used to paying to have my clothes washed. But rather than pricing by weight, as local New York laundromats do, Royal Caribbean charged for each article of clothing. Each shirt was $4, and a dress cost $9. Most surprisingly, washing just one pair of underwear would have cost $2.

I thought this would add up fast, so I didn't do any laundry on my trip. In hindsight, I should have brought a bar of laundry soap to hand-wash a few things.

I would've brought my own case of water if I knew it was allowed.

Joey Hadden/Business Insider

To ensure I stayed hydrated throughout my trip, I opted for the water bottle package while booking trip extras like restaurant reservations and excursions. For $16, Royal Caribbean delivered a case of 24 water bottles to my cabin. It seemed expensive for a pack of water, but I thought this was just part of the price of cruising.

When I was boarding the ship, though, I noticed people carrying their own cases of water. That's when I realized Royal Caribbean allows guests to bring their own nonalcoholic beverages.

If I had known this, I would've brought my own water and saved a few bucks.

If I had known these details before my cruise, I could have had a better time while saving some money. Hopefully, my findings will help other first-time cruisers.

While I enjoyed parts of my cruise, some of this knowledge could've made my trip much more comfortable.

On my next cruise, I'll remember what I learned about cabin locations, formal nights, and cool, windy mornings sailing in the Caribbean Sea.

Philly officer murdered in line of duty promoted to sergeant as police from around US attend his funeral

PHILADELPHIA — Thousands of police officers from around the U.S. traveled to the City of Brotherly Love Tuesday for the funeral of Shane Seiber, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on Oct. 10, when prosecutors say an armed suspect shot him and his partner.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin J. Bethel announced during the service at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul that Seiber had been promoted posthumously to the rank of sergeant.

Seiber had served 10 years in the department after spending the prior decade in the Air Force, where he deployed for two tours in Iraq.

Officers from around Pennsylvania and other states packed the memorial service to pay their respects.

I vari scenari

Qualora venissero attuati tutti i contributi determinati a livello nazionale (Ndc, i Nationally Determined Contributions*) e proseguissero sforzi analoghi, il riscaldamento sarebbe limitato a 2,6°C.

EU Puts Arctic Security First as Brussels Plans New Maritime Surveillance Network

The European Union has adopted a new Arctic strategy placing security at the centre of its northern policy, reflecting growing concern over Russian military activity, vulnerable submarine infrastructure and competition for control of emerging maritime routes.

Presented on Tuesday, 20 October, by the European Commission and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, the strategy proposes a maritime security hub, expanded satellite surveillance, greater icebreaker capacity and improved military mobility across northern Europe.

The document marks a departure from the EU’s 2021 Arctic policy, which placed greater emphasis on climate change, environmental protection and scientific cooperation. The revised framework treats the region as an increasingly important component of European security and economic policy.

Russia’s military presence reshapes European priorities

Russia’s expanding military infrastructure in the High North is a principal concern behind the policy revision.

Moscow has reopened Soviet-era military installations, strengthened its northern forces and maintained substantial nuclear capabilities on the Kola Peninsula. The region contains strategically important naval bases used by Russia’s Northern Fleet, including facilities supporting its submarine-based nuclear deterrent.

Russian operations in the Arctic also have implications for maritime access between the Atlantic and the Barents Sea, an area increasingly important to NATO’s northern defence arrangements.

The EU intends to work more closely with NATO and its northern partners, including Norway, Iceland, Britain, Canada and the United States, while developing capabilities that complement existing military structures.

Kallas said the Arctic’s security environment had deteriorated significantly since 2021, with geopolitical competition increasingly affecting a region previously associated principally with environmental and economic cooperation.

The EU’s revised priorities reflect concerns extending beyond conventional military deployments, particularly the exposure of undersea communications networks and energy infrastructure to sabotage and disruption.

New maritime security hub and submarine cable protection

A central proposal involves establishing an EU Maritime Security Hub to improve information-sharing between member states and partner countries operating in Arctic waters.

The system would strengthen monitoring of maritime movements and support the identification of suspicious activity near critical infrastructure.

Brussels also proposes an Arctic Cable Hub, initially concentrating on the protection, monitoring and repair of submarine communications cables across the North Atlantic and Arctic.

Such infrastructure carries international data traffic and supports communications between Europe, Greenland and North America. Damage to cables could interrupt telecommunications, financial services and government networks.

The Commission’s new Arctic policy framework also supports the proposed Pan-Arctic Cable connecting Greenland directly with Europe, together with secure satellite communications through the EU’s IRIS² programme.

Further measures envisage expanded use of Copernicus satellite surveillance, improved maritime intelligence and closer monitoring of vessels associated with Russia’s shadow fleet.

These measures form part of a broader attempt to improve European surveillance capabilities without relying exclusively on military assets provided by individual NATO members.

Icebreakers, transport corridors and military mobility

The strategy also addresses Europe’s limited capacity to operate in extreme northern conditions.

The Commission wants to support additional icebreaker capabilities, which are essential for maintaining access to Arctic waters, conducting emergency operations and supporting scientific and logistical activity.

Russian icebreaker capabilities remain considerably more extensive than those available to most European countries, providing Moscow with operational advantages along the Northern Sea Route.

European investment would also support ports, railways, energy terminals and digital infrastructure capable of serving both civilian and security requirements.

The emphasis on dual-use infrastructure reflects the growing importance of military mobility across northern Europe, particularly following Finland’s and Sweden’s accession to NATO.

Improved transport links could facilitate the movement of equipment and personnel while also supporting economic development in sparsely populated northern regions.

However, the Commission has not provided a comprehensive financial allocation for the proposed security measures, leaving important questions about funding, procurement and implementation.

Brussels retreats from Arctic drilling ban proposal

The revised strategy also introduces a significant change in the EU’s position on Arctic fossil fuel development.

In 2021, Brussels proposed pursuing an international legal commitment to prohibit further oil, gas and coal extraction in the Arctic.

The new strategy maintains the EU’s opposition to environmentally damaging fossil fuel development but no longer includes the explicit ambition to secure a multilateral legal prohibition.

The adjustment follows sustained disagreement with energy-producing countries and recognition that an international agreement would be difficult to achieve under current geopolitical conditions.

Norway has argued that continued exploration in parts of the Barents Sea remains important for European energy security, particularly as production from mature Norwegian fields is expected to decline.

EU Today previously reported on Brussels’ opposition to Norwegian Arctic drilling plans and the disagreements between environmental objectives and Europe’s long-term energy requirements.

The latest strategy does not represent an endorsement of new Arctic drilling. It does, however, acknowledge the limitations of the EU’s previous diplomatic approach.

Greenland and the northern economy

Greenland occupies a prominent position in the revised strategy because of its location, mineral resources and importance to transatlantic communications.

The Commission wants to expand cooperation on digital connectivity, critical raw materials, research and infrastructure investment, while recognising the responsibilities of Greenland’s own institutions and the Kingdom of Denmark.

Brussels also intends to strengthen scientific cooperation and support Arctic communities adapting to rapid environmental change.

The Arctic is warming nearly four times faster than the global average, creating new commercial opportunities while imposing substantial costs on local populations and infrastructure.

The EU’s proposals therefore combine security measures with investment in transport networks, research facilities and economic diversification.

For Brussels, implementation will require agreement between member states with different geographical interests, defence capabilities and budgetary priorities. Cooperation with NATO will also require careful coordination to avoid duplicating existing military arrangements.

The Commission has established a significantly broader Arctic agenda than the one adopted five years ago. Its practical impact will depend on whether member states finance the surveillance systems, vessels and infrastructure that the new strategy envisages.

A Trump-Putin-Xi summit would put Xi at the apex

In July 1971, Henry Kissinger developed a convenient stomachache in Pakistan, vanished from public view and turned up in Beijing. The secret trip that led to Nixon’s opening to China rested on a simple piece of geometry: in a world of three great powers, the smart move is to stand closer to each of your […]

Titans release defensive tackle Jordan Elliott days after picking up first win of NFL season

The first few weeks of the NFL season brought more lows than highs for the Tennessee Titans.

But Week 6 provided one of the team’s rare bright spots, as the Titans rallied for a 26-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, their first win of the season.

The celebratory mood at the Titans’ Nashville headquarters was likely short-lived, however, after the team made a surprising move involving one of its defensive linemen.

On Tuesday, the Titans announced they had released defensive tackle Jordan Elliott, citing an unspecified "incident" at the team’s facility.

TITANS CEO APOLOGIZES TO BELEAGUERED FANBASE AFTER DREADFUL START TO THE SEASON: 'WE'RE SORRY'

Elliott played under then-San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh the past two seasons before following Saleh to Tennessee, where he is now the Titans’ head coach. Elliott appeared in five games this season with the Titans, recording 11 total tackles.

In a statement, the Titans said the incident happened last Thursday.

"On Thursday, Oct. 15, there was an incident at our team facility involving Jordan Elliott. Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster. We will have no further comment on the matter."

Details surrounding the incident were not immediately available.

Elsewhere on the Titans’ roster, defensive back Alontae Taylor did not suit up due to what was described as a coach’s decision. Saleh also did not provide details about Taylor’s status.

Taylor played nearly every defensive snap during the Titans’ first five games of the season. He signed a three-year, $58 million contract with Tennessee in March and had recorded 19 tackles and one sack through those five matchups.

Amy Schumer shares swimsuit photos from Caribbean getaway nearly a year after 50-pound weight-loss reveal

Amy Schumer shared a glimpse of her recent family vacation in Turks and Caicos, where she posed in a floral one-piece swimsuit before heading out on a scuba-diving excursion.

The 45-year-old comedian posted photos from her time at the beach resort, including several shots aboard a boat and footage of her exploring the ocean underwater.

In one photo, Schumer stood sideways on a boat, holding onto a metal railing as she looked over her shoulder toward the camera. Her swimsuit featured pink roses and green leaves against a cream-colored background, with lace-up detailing along the back.

She completed the look with oversized tinted sunglasses, while her blonde hair was pulled into a casual ponytail.

Another image showed the "Trainwreck" star facing the camera in the same swimsuit, adjusting her sunglasses while holding a large orange buoy attached to a yellow rope.

Schumer also gave followers a glimpse of her underwater adventure, sharing footage of herself scuba diving in tropical waters.

"Our family had the time of our lives at @beachesresorts in Turks and Caicos," Schumer captioned the Instagram post.

"2 best decisions of my life are becoming a mom and getting certified to dive by PADI," she continued. "If you're like me and have always wanted to dive, don't wait!"

The actress, who shares 7-year-old son Gene with ex-husband Chris Fischer, also thanked the resort staff and credited TA3 for her swimsuit.

Schumer's vacation photos drew encouragement from several famous friends.

"Legs McGee. 🔥," actor Cheyenne Jackson commented.

Actress Leslie Mann chimed in with "Babe," while Lindsay Lohan and Krysten Ritter left heart emojis.

The tropical getaway also included some unexpected entertainment.

In an exclusive interview with People published Wednesday, Schumer recalled attending an impromptu wedding celebration after discovering a ceremony taking place on the beach near her family's accommodations.

The comedian said she and Gene watched the vows from nearby lounge chairs before she joined the festivities and photobombed the newlyweds.

Schumer also described scuba diving as a highlight of the vacation, explaining that she had the opportunity to explore reefs and see a variety of fish.

Her son, meanwhile, enjoyed the resort's water park, where the family spent time together during their stay.

The vacation comes as Schumer continues to share glimpses of her life following her weight-loss journey.

In December 2025, the comedian clarified that she had lost 50 pounds while addressing speculation about her changing appearance.

"I didn't lose 30lbs, I lost 50," Schumer wrote on Instagram at the time, which has since been deleted.

"Not to look hot which does feel fun and temporary. I did it to survive," she continued.

Schumer, who previously revealed she had been diagnosed with Cushing syndrome, explained that her health had been a major factor in her physical transformation.

She also acknowledged using Mounjaro, a medication she had previously praised after experiencing severe side effects with another weight-loss drug.

In a since deleted March 2025 Instagram video, Schumer said she had tried Wegovy several years earlier but struggled with nausea.

"Mounjaro's been great," she said, adding that she was having a positive experience with the medication.

Schumer has since emphasized that improving her health, rather than meeting outside expectations about her appearance, has been her priority.

Urban Meyer joins Dan Dakich, gushes about new Florida head coach Jon Sumrall: 'I love that guy'

Urban Meyer knows a thing or two about what makes a great college football coach.

The 62-year-old College Football Hall of Fame inductee won three national championships during his nearly two-decade career, two of which came while he was roaming the sidelines at the University of Florida.

His ties to Gainesville made him a trusted voice in the Gators' latest coaching search, and coaching searches have been frequent occurrences since he exited stage left in December 2010.

FLORIDA GATORS COACH JON SUMRALL SAYS HE WOULDN'T HAVE LEFT TULANE IF HE WASN'T ALLOWED TO COACH PLAYOFF TEAM

With Meyer's help, Florida selected Jon Sumrall, whose first year is off to a roaring start thanks to two top-10 wins (Ole Miss and Texas) before he's even had a chance to coach a full season.

Seven games into his tenure, Meyer has been blown away by Sumrall, and joined Dan Dakich on his show, "Don't @ Me," to discuss how he had a small part in helping usher the new Gator to The Swamp this past fall.

FLORIDA COACH BRINGS LAUGHS, NO FILTER AND LANE KIFFIN COMPARISON REBUTTAL TO FIRST SEC MEDIA DAYS

"I don't like him, I love the guy," Meyer said with the same smile a proud older sibling would wear when talking about his younger brother's accomplishments.

"I never met him until this year, I was involved in the coaching search. They asked me to kind of vet, and one phone call, I hung up the phone and I called a guy on the board of trustees and I said, 'you found your guy, man.'"

FORMER OHIO STATE, FLORIDA COACH URBAN MEYER REVEALS THE ONE PLACE HE REFUSED TO RECRUIT PLAYERS FROM

As I mentioned before, Meyer knows what a good coach looks like.

Outside of his accomplishments, Meyer's "coaching tree" looks as impressive as anyone's not named "Saban."

Just a few of Urban's notable assistant coaches over the years include Ryan Day, Dan Mullen, Brian Hartline, Charlie Strong, Steve Addazio, Luke Fickell, and Mike Vrabel, among others.

So, when Urban Meyer hops on the phone and says "you found your guy," chances are he's onto something.

"This guy doesn't b—h... you ever hear him bitch about the NIL? You ever hear him b—h about the transfer portal," Meyer asked rhetorically. "No, he loves the game. He loves his players."

Meyer also lauds Sumrall for how tough he is on his players while still showing them love.

"I love when he says, 'yeah, we suck, we just suck less today and we beat Texas.' I mean how cool is that?"

A big part of why Meyer has been so drawn to the 43-year-old Gators coach is the fact that he sees a lot of his younger self in Sumrall, too.

He brings up their Bloody Tuesday practices and mentions that the second in command is Rusty Whitt, Florida's head strength coach.

"The number two in charge is their strength coach, just like us," Meyer recalls. "I believe he's a Green Beret who runs the strength program, and he's the culture."

It's early, and a lot of things can still change, but Sumrall is doing his best to make Meyer look like a genius since the moment he hung up that phone 11 months ago.

OutKick readers blast WNBA players for hiding during Finals national anthem

Rules for thee, not for me.

Monday night in San Francisco, for the second consecutive game of the WNBA Finals, the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries stepped off the court before the national anthem and then immediately returned to the court after Canadian-born Alanis Morissette finished her performance.

The spineless league hasn't said a word despite the women continuing to break an anthem rulebook provision that requires them to attend the performance. Now that we've reported, it's time for you guys to react and share your feelings on this drama that isn't going away.

WNBA SILENT AFTER FINALS TEAMS SKIP NATIONAL ANTHEM DESPITE RULE REQUIRING PLAYERS TO STAND AND LINE UP

Let's do this.

OutKick readers weigh in on how the anthem situation should be handled:

• UNLV Doc has some deep thoughts to share: WNBA types and political sycophants probably think they're rebels, and they are. But they are rebelling against order and creation in favor of chaos, which is always the easy way to mindlessly effect change, and what the selfish have always done. Honorable rebels take a stand, work, and sacrifice, even against self-interest to bravely bring about something other than the chaos that naturally exists without applied effort to create something good. I'm looking forward to seeing such leaders emerge from the WNBA mob; I know they're in there somewhere.

• Richard C. sent in this great take: How about a double disqualification and no champion recognized this year.

• Carmen has hit a breaking point: I love Daily Outkick and I hate the WNBA and everyday it's just funny to read and move on. It's not that funny anymore. The WNBA has failed women. As a female coach, I do my best to build strong, confident, capable, athletes who happen to be females. They are held to a standard that doesn't include entitlement, excuses, or any agenda other than TEAM.

The WNBA is about anything but sport, and that is inexcusable for so many young women pursuing professional sports. Pushing themselves to another level to achieve their goals. It's embarrassing that this is women's professional basketball when so few hold themselves to that level. It's a soap opera that deserves zero attention.

As an organization that is supposed to promote the best in women's sport, it's become laughable. It's a joke that has a played out punchline. You have failed those you are supposed to be a trailblazer for. When athletic performance is secondary to everything else, you have failed as a league.

• Pops makes a good point: The WNBA proves once again they are a political activist organization not a women’s basketball organization. They decide what rules they want to enforce and what rules they will not enforce.

• Kenneth is fed up: Well I have an answer. If the WNBA had any balls (which they don’t) both teams would be banned from playing the game and all players suspended indefinitely. If you can’t attend and stand for the national anthem of the country that has given you everything then you have no business being here.

• Mark S. sends a message to WNBA executives: What a crock. The league is a farce and an embarrassment to our country, not thier country. Fine them all. This is not a political forum it is a game and rules are rules. Enough of the lesbian leaque and who wnba management listen to. Stand up and control your players or get rid of them Set an example.

• Mike Mc. says: The WNBA is a sideshow of awkward misfits playing a child's game poorly.  It's no surprise that they do dumb things, but it is surprising that any discerning "fan" pays attention to this collection of grumpy malcontents.  On second thought, if you had any discernment, you wouldn't be a fan. Problem solved.

• Joe B. wants the WNBA to take a hike: Remove the entire league from USA arenas. Sell the entire group to Europe, Asia or a South America country. Who needs these disrespectful ingrates playing here?

• Don says enough is enough: Why are we continually putting up with the WNBA? They have proven they are a league that continually cares only about themselves and no one or nothing else. The league fails to react to any of the players who disobey the rules. They have tried to turn this into a racial bias league. I think i am done.

• Gary says punish them for breaking the rules: This is just another example of disrespect for our nation and should not go unpunished by the league. Actions should have consequences.

• Richard S. tells us: Stop giving the anti American league any more print.

• Michael M. emails: I think all the international players should be deported for not respecting the American flag and National Anthem and all the lesbians be disbarred from playing in the WNBA.

• Jerry has a simple message: Real Americans don't watch this trash anyway.

Here's a sampling of other comments posted to our WNBA anthem coverage:

  • It’s like this league/teams/players go out of their way to make people not like them. I’ve never seen a major sports or entertainment franchise so hell bent as this one to be as unappealing to the public at large as this one. It’s quite amazing.
  • Disgusting. But as a private organization I guess the players can do what they want…. as can I. I immediately changed the channel. I won’t watch that baloney. We don’t need another France.
  • Once could be a mix up. Twice in a row is INTENTIONAL! The coaches, the players, and the owners should be fined.
  • Fine each team $250,000 for this offense. Third offense $350,000 each. Fourth offense each team gets one game forfeited. Get serious WNBA! This is a disgrace.
  • The WNBA finally has a shot at gaining traction and instead of embracing it, they seem determined to throw it away.
  • This aligns with the sickness of our culture - lack of gratitude. the fact that a person can kneel during the national anthem is reason to stand for it. That alone, we should be grateful.
  • It is amazing to watch an organization "Bud-Light" themselves. They already can't support themselves. They have to be subsidized by the NBA. I don't see much of a future for the WNBA.

76ers vs Knicks | Tuesday, Oct 20, 2026 at 7:00 pm ET | Madison Square Garden, New York, NY | NBC/Peacock

A lot has changed over the summer. The 76ers have added two major pieces to their starting lineup, and even one to their rotation. The additions of Jaylen Brown, LeBron James and Anfernee Simons will give the team a boost. The big question, as always, surrounds Joel Embiid and his health.

The Knicks were able to capture their first championship in over 40 years. Jalen Brunson established himself as a true 1A option for the team, and the Knicks now have a chance to be the first team in about a decade to win the NBA Championship in back-to-back years. There are some cracks in the foundation, though. Karl-Anthony Towns wants a new contract, the team lost some depth, and it is hard to win two years in a row.

Thunder vs Spurs | Tuesday, Oct 20, 2026 at 9:30 pm ET | Frost Bank Center, San Antonio, TX | NBC/Peacock

How does a team respond to getting knocked out of the postseason, in Game 7, on their home court? That’s the question the Thunder will have to answer today. Oklahoma City won the championship two years ago, and they were knocked out by the Spurs last year. This year, they are opening the year against their biggest threat to returning to the Finals.

If we question how a team responds to being knocked out in the Western Conference Finals, we probably need to wonder how a team responds to being knocked out of the NBA Finals. The Spurs had leads in a few games and, simply put, they blew it. Sometimes, teams need to lose in order to learn how to win. Will the Spurs start their journey to the championship with a win today?

Oklahoma City Thunder Starting Lineup

France could face even worse destruction with second weekend of planned riots, State Dept warns

FIRST ON FOX: The State Department warns that antifascist groups are planning to participate in a "potentially more confrontational protest" this weekend as the far-right National Rally holds its political convention just days after widespread riots overwhelmed police and exposed major security failures.

As party leader Marine Le Pen prepares for the gathering on Oct. 24–25 in Orléans, France, an internal document obtained by Fox News Digital cautions that antagonists are planning more demonstrations near the convention venue that could "expose further security shortcomings and deepen political tensions."

The warning comes at a particularly dangerous political moment for President Emmanuel Macron, considering the same unrest that exposed his government's security vulnerabilities could also give National Rally and center-right parties an opening to challenge his record, according to the State Department assessment.

GLOBAL 'CHAOS INC' GROWS TO 101 GROUPS WITH PLANS FOR NEW ROUNDS OF DEMONSTRATIONS

Now, French authorities face another high-stakes security test as demonstrators prepare to converge on the congress of a party that could benefit politically from the previous unrest.

The demonstrations are expected to coincide with the National Rally's two-day party congress, where Le Pen is set to launch her presidential campaign. Left-wing parties, unions and activist groups are planning a march Saturday, while antifascist groups have announced plans for a separate protest Sunday near the convention venue, according to the State Department assessment.

WHO'S WHO: INSIDE FRANCE'S 'CHAOS INC.' FRANCHISE OF COMMUNIST GROUPS, LABOR UNIONS AND GLOBAL ACTIVISTS

National Rally President Jordan Bardella has ruled out canceling the congress, while local authorities are preparing additional security restrictions around the gathering.

The looming confrontation comes as France is still reeling from the Oct. 17 unrest, when authorities badly underestimated the scale of demonstrations that descended into widespread rioting and looting.

Some 550,000 people joined 110 marches nationwide, according to France's Interior Ministry. More than 2,400 people were arrested, nearly 1,000 law enforcement officers and firefighters were injured and thousands of businesses were damaged. And intelligence failures that far underestimated the turnout left authorities overwhelmed and facing more than double the number of protesters originally estimated.

The State Department's internal assessment notes that the violence has reshaped France's political debate just six months before voters choose Macron's successor. It says the unrest has shifted attention away from the economic and education grievances that initially drove the protests and toward public security and government accountability, potentially giving National Rally and center-right parties an opening to challenge Macron's record.

French officials have acknowledged that intelligence and planning failures contributed to authorities being overwhelmed during the Oct. 17 unrest.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez offered his resignation after acknowledging police "lost control" in some major cities. Macron rejected it, citing the need for continuity in law enforcement command, and ordered "full transparency" over the failures in planning and intelligence-gathering that preceded the violence.

Nuñez has said authorities need to improve their ability to anticipate large-scale mobilizations, putting added pressure on security services to avoid a repeat when demonstrators converge on Orléans this weekend.

And the government may have little time to recover even if the National Rally congress passes without major violence.

Labor organizations are already mobilizing for nationwide strikes and demonstrations Nov. 5 over wages, public services and the proposed 2027 budget, according to the State Department document.

The internal assessment said Macron faces competing pressure to restore order while addressing the grievances fueling the protests, with limited fiscal room for concessions as parliament debates next year's budget.

With parliamentary scrutiny looming and further demonstrations already planned, the State Department assessed that France faces another potential flash point that could "expose further security shortcomings and deepen political tensions."

2. The Velvet Underground & Nico – The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967)
Andy Warhol
piazza una banana gialla su fondo bianco. Fine. O quasi.

5. David Bowie – “Heroes” (1977)

Anche Gabriel partecipò all’esperimento.

7. New Order – Power, Corruption & Lies (1983)

8. Suede – Suede (1993)

9. PJ Harvey – To Bring You My Love (1995)

Buona lettura e buon ascolto.

9 canzoni 9… dietro quelle copertina

Defund the police betrayed Black America. I'm rebuilding what activists broke

In my neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, too many of our residents, especially the children, fear the police. They have been taught that the police are not their friends, that officers might shoot them, arrest them for being Black, and that they are their enemies. I do not believe any of this, and I have sought to correct these misperceptions, which could have fatal consequences.

I recently invited several Chicago police officers to visit my community center, Project H.O.O.D. They came in full Chicago blue uniforms, with their police visor caps with the checkered bands, and their guns. At first, there was tension in the room. You could feel it. Some of the kids hid behind the adults, some of whom stood defiantly. The gulf was profound, and that is why I invited the police in to do my part to repair the damage done by the defund the police movement, one encounter at a time.

This damage goes back years, a lifetime for most of our youth who know nothing but hostility to the police. For more than a decade, Black Lives Matter and its allies conditioned a generation to treat the police as the problem. Fear and hatred of the police had always been there to some degree in the Black community.

But there was something different about this conditioning, which began to take off after Trayvon Martin’s death in 2012. When George Zimmerman was acquitted, the phrase "Black Lives Matter" was born, and the message that began to spread was that the police were hunting Black boys. Zimmerman was not a police officer, but for the sake of the narrative, he was made the stand-in as the neighborhood vigilante.

Michael Brown’s death in Ferguson in 2014 only reinforced the narrative. "Hands up, don’t shoot" became a slogan that was not true. Brown did not have his hands up — instead, he charged the cop, but the image of a White cop and a dead Black teen was all the narrative needed to continue. Police officers nationwide were demonized as an occupying force rather than neighbors with badges.

By the time George Floyd died in Minneapolis in 2020, the groundwork had already been laid. The New York Times published its May 30 opinion piece titled "No More Money for the Police," arguing that the path to safety was to reduce police power and contact with the public and redirect the money elsewhere. In Minneapolis, a majority of the City Council stood in a park and pledged to dismantle the police department. The loudest voices were not asking for better training or more accountability. They wanted abolition.

When I heard that, I knew one thing: it would be us who paid the price. Not the folks living in leafy suburbs with Black Lives Matter signs in their front yards. And the impact was felt immediately. No police officer wanted to risk going viral. They pulled back. And, shamefully, many in my community demanded that.

MR T TAUGHT ME A LESSON EVERY KID ON CHICAGO'S SOUTH SIDE NEEDS TO HEAR

In 2019, Chicago recorded roughly 500 homicides. In 2020, that number climbed to 781. In 2021, it reached 804 — the city’s deadliest year in a quarter-century. The spike was national — FBI data showed murders rose nearly 30% in 2020, the largest single-year increase on record, with Black Americans hit even harder. Chicago’s South and West Sides absorbed a disproportionate share. Police staffing fell as retirements and resignations surged. Morale collapsed under canceled days off, forced overtime and the constant message that the job itself was illegitimate. Arrests and proactive policing dropped. The outcome was not a policy experiment. There were more funerals in the neighborhoods that could least afford them.

So many of those who died during this time should be alive. They died because Black activists demonized the police to advance their own activist agendas, which led to the very destruction of the people they claimed to be helping. To date, none have taken responsibility for their deadly rhetoric.

There is nothing I can do about the dead. My focus has been on the living, especially the young minds. They are the ones still paying the price. Years of being told that the police are the enemy taught some of them never to call when something bad is happening. They see the uniform and assume hostility rather than help. I have watched that fear take root in kids who have already lost too much. It is one of the lasting wounds of the defund era: not only fewer officers on the street, but a generation that learned the people sworn to protect them cannot be trusted.

At Project H.O.O.D., we are repairing that damage the only way I know how — by bringing the police into our building and letting our kids see them as people. Officers come in and sit with the children, the teenagers and the adults who walk through our doors. They answer questions. They listen to the stories that our young people carry. They show that the uniform does not hide a monster; it covers a man or woman who chose a hard job because they want to keep this community safe. Some of the kids who used to freeze up at the sight of a squad car now stay after and keep talking. A few have even started asking what it takes to become an officer themselves.

The fear does not disappear in a single afternoon, but the wall starts to crack. That is the work. It is not a press conference. It is not a slogan. It is one conversation at a time inside a building where we refuse to let the lies of the last decade become the future of the next one.

The police are not the enemy. Treating them as if they are has already cost too many lives on these streets. We are done accepting that.
